I haven't posted anything here on HIVE for a month but that doesn't mean I have nothing to share. In fact, there have been many exciting and not-so-exciting things that happened in my life over the past four weeks.
I will not talk about every single thing that happened in this post, but I will give a brief sneak peek into four of the things that I experienced in the past few weeks. And let's start with the least exciting one...
Art theft. Yup some pathetic dimwit (or a group of them) somewhere in the world had been stealing hundreds of my designs and resold them on their shops. Okay, this is not a new problem for me but I never talk about this publicly before. This has been happening for several years and I can assure you, there are many other artists/designers who had been victims of art theft. I have several print-on-demand shops targeting different niches and these shops had been a good source of passive income for me. Unfortunately, one of the risks of running such shops is that we are vulnerable to art/design theft. So what these thieves did was they went to my shops and took screenshots of my designs and put them on their products and sold them. This is one example, my fanart of Jake the Dog from Cartoon Network's Adventure Time. I'm a certified fan artist for this show under Redbubble Fan Art Program, meaning I can sell this design legally.
And these are some of the reviews from customers who bought from the thief's shop and they had no idea they had bought my stolen art/design.
I had been spending hours of my precious time filing more than 100 take-down notices to these shops and it has been extremely frustrating and demotivating. Okay, I'm not sharing this to get sympathy or asking for solutions so please refrain from offering any unsolicited advice. And before you ask, no, I can't afford a lawyer to go after these SOBs, and yes, those images are of low resolution and I always watermarked my images. But watermarks can be removed and low-resolution images can be rescaled using AI. So...🤦♀.
However, art theft doesn't discourage me to the point I quit drawing. I'm working on several art projects and one of them is making/drawing Stranger Things fanart under Redbubble-Netflix Fan Art Program. I already submitted 4 fanart and I hope to make several more and most importantly I hope they all get approved by Netflix so that I can sell them legally.
Oh, for those who have never heard of this show, Stranger Things is an American science fiction horror drama that you can watch on Netflix.
Other than making fanart, I've also been busy working on a series of drawings that I hope to publish on a couple of coloring books. I have so many coloring book ideas, I honestly don't know which one to focus on 😆. If you wonder how long it takes to draw one illustration, well, it depends. On a good day, I could finish 2 drawings but most times, I need a couple of days to finish one drawing. See, I don't spend my day sitting and drawing all the time because I've family commitments and stuff I need to take care off beside drawing 🤷♀.
Yup, exciting time! I was invited by Malaysia's National FM to appear as a guest on one of their shows. This was totally unexpected but I felt truly honored to be given this opportunity to be a show guest. I think this deserves its own post, so I'll share more of my experiences in that post. Let me just share a couple of photos taken at the studio during the show.
So that's it from me today. My apologies for my bad English. These days I rarely proofread and correct my grammar or sentence structures, but I hope my post is readable and makes sense 😆
That's it for now. If you read this far, thank you. I appreciate it so much! Kindly give me a follow if you like my content. I mostly write about making art, life musing, and our mundane yet charming family life here in Klang Valley, Malaysia.
Note: All images used belong to me unless stated otherwise.
I currently accept pencil portrait commissions. I'll draw a pencil sketch of your close-up portrait and deliver it to you digitally (high-resolution JPG and PNG files).
Wow! You are so amazing sis. So sad for the stolen beautiful arts. You artworks are really closer to reality. Proud of your beautiful crafts! Amazing!
So happy to know that you have some exposure on the national FM but so sad knowing that you're one of the victims of art theft.
You're really a great artist sis, imagine making drawings for coloring books. That's great..congrats.
