Greetings ASEAN Hivers, @justinparke here with a new challenge revolving around how frugal and efficient Southeast Asian folk can be with a single dollar.
Β Β Β In Southeast Asia, maybe other than Singapore or Timor Leste, a dollar can go a long way. and by dollar I mean the US dollar. In some parts of Southeast Asia, like Cambodia, you can actually spend US dollars on the street, but more importantly for this challenge the US dollar represents a global value easily understood and relatable. In Cambodia the US dollar is approximately 4,000 riel, so a Cambodian challenge would involve showing what someone can buy for a 1 USD (4,000 riel) anywhere within the country.
Β Β Β If you are in Vietnam you might have around 26,000 dong to spend for this challenge. Show me what a US dollar or same amount of local currency will buy in your country, a very simple challenge. Perhaps you could have a flat bicycle tire repaired and buy a sugarcane juice while you wait, something that I know can be done for a dollar in Cambodia. Snacks, services, repairs, groceries, even clothes can sometimes be purchased for less than a dollar, so show me what you can do ASEAN Hivers.
Note - sorry this challenge is posted late, I will extend it until Tuesday evening USA time. My stepfather is having some serious health issues and I am struggling to manage my time.
Β Β Β The winners of this challenge feature food, food-art and art as the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners. You are all are full of talent, and not only the three winning posts featured impressed me because all entries are worth your consideration. Do consider browsing the original challenge comments section for other entry links not shown here if you find yourself still in need of more content after supporting the awesome folks below.
Today, Iβm sharing with you making pizza that we learned from our Bread and Pastry Production class. It is one of the technical-vocational courses and trainings provided by TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority) here in the Philippines. Just a little background on how I got into it, I decided to enroll because itβs free and I wanted to learn more about baking.
Good morning! I'm pretty sure you guys have eaten some desserts made of gelatin in the past. But did you know, gelatin isn't only poured on molders? We can actually make elegant cakes out of itβthe Jelly Cake! Jelly Cake is a cake made of agar for it's base/canvas and uses gelatin solution to inject designs through a special tool. I consider jelly cake as the highest and most elegant form of gelatin art.
It's a usual freaking-out week of deadlines, and it's good that I spent a peaceful time crocheting this adorable, intricate belt as my stress relief. You will find this complicated but quick to create. It's gratifying! There are a variety of concepts that caught my eye while looking up free crochet belt patterns, but having my design allowed me to keep things simple, elegant, and special.

Hmm, I thought Singapore will have problem with getting by with 1 USD.
It's even difficult to get local coffee at a local coffee place for 1 USD in Singapore.
Didn't know Timor Leste will be a challenge too.
