My garden in spring: fresh growth and blooming trees

Walking in my garden in spring is so nice. It's cool to see everything growing and blossming.
Here is an update of the things that have changed since my last #gardenupdate.

In the corner of my garden I have a crabapple tree. It's a nice big tree that turns completely pink in spring. At first it has loads of dark pink buds as you can see on the photo below. As soon as the buds open up, the beautiful light pink blossom turns the tree into a pink cloud.
The tree attracts loads of bees. I love the collective humming they do.

I'm always amazed how my great oxeye plants grow. They comletely dry out during fall. In the first year I never thought they would come up again, but they do every year.
Just in a few weeks they grow out from tiny plants to huge 1 meter high plants with massive leaves. This is the current status.

image.png

In summer they grow beautiful yellow flowers which again attract a lot of insects like bees and also butterflies (do you see a pattern here? 😉).
Last year I collected some of the seeds of the flowers. This year I'm doing an experiment to grow new plants from them. I've spread out a lot of seeds in some propagation soil and quite a few of them have sprouted.
I do have to figure out how I'm going to give them some more space as some of the 'squares' have a bit too many plants 😀

I've been doing some more sowing and growing indoors. I have cucumber peppers and tomatoes (from left to right).
The cucumbers are growing quite fast although some of them have some dried out leafs. I wonder how that happened since I water them quite often and the other ones aren't dried out.
I think I might have to repot some of the cucumbers soon to give them some more space.

Not all the pepper seeds have sprouted, but those who did are still tiny, but look healthy.
The tomaties on the right are a bit larger.

I'm not only seeding, I'm also propagating my indoor plants. One of the cutest is this succulent which I was trying to grow from a leaf. It really starts to look like a real, but tiny plant 😀
I'll let it grow further for a bit until I can detach the leaf.

image.png

This 'succulent project' made me look for other plants to propagate. I found another one that grew to big for its pot.

image.png

And when I was repotting it, I discovered these two small 'side shoots'. I removed them carefully and asked ChatGPT whether and how I could propagate these. ChatGPT suggested to let them dry for a couple of days and then put them into soil. They would start to grow roots by themselves then.
Let's see if that will happen then 😀

image.png

And then my pitcher plants. This one has grown a new plant last year which I gave its own pot and now I have two of them. And this year I have taken a cutting from the 'old' motherplant to see if I can grow a third plant from that.

image.png

The 'youngest' of the two plants is growing quite a few pitchers already. I didn't have many last year, so let's see what this year brings.
Most of them still are tiny, but the one at the bottom (pointed at by the arrow) is already 1 centimeter large.

image.png

They really look dried out and dead, but that isn't the case. They looked like this last year too and they did grow into nice, big and healhy pitchers.

And then the herbs and vegetable part of my garden... the parsley, chives and thyme (in the back seem to have survived the winter well (although the parsley is looking a bit yellow). The plant next to the chives is a camomille. I remember I got it last year from a road side stand offering small plant cuttings. I didn't know if it would survive, but it did and it already grew quite big too. I wonder if it will grow any flowers already this year.
In the back, the bamboo sticks are waiting for the cucumbers to climb into them. As soon as they are big and strong enough I will move them outside.

image.png

And talking about flowers, I've filled up the rest of the herb garden with a flower mix.
It probably won't look like the picture on the box, but I do hope it will give some colors to the garden.

image.png

Well, that was it for this time. I will post another update in a few weeks.

I like your crabapple tree. Do you eat them? I've never heard of oxeye, but I love perennial plants. I have low germination with pepper seeds, too. Sometimes I just give up entirely. The pitcher plant was what really caught my attention! You have to post more pictures later when they grow! Do you fill them with water? In the wild, small animals use them as toilets.
Every week when I went shopping, I used to buy a small flower mix like yours and scatter them. Now, it sustains itself. From experience, you'll need more than one packet but, yes, it does look like that.

No, the 'apples' are tiny; the size of cherries and as far as I know not edible.
Too bad, because there are loads of them 😂

The pitcher plant is really cool. I received it from my daughters two years ago for my birthday. My wife doesn't like the plant, so they hang in my office now. They get a lot of sun there, what they really like. I don't fill the pitchers. The plant does this by itself. I do spray the plants a couple of times a week since they love humidity.
Here's a picture of one of the pitchers from last year:

It's just a pokemon, no?

From experience, you'll need more than one packet but, yes, it does look like that.

It was a 25 m2 package and the plot is about 10 m2 I think. But I could buy another package.

Ah yes, the Pokemon that would always swallow James! I remember! I like the little version better, before it evolved.

I don't know how much but the plot I planted is much smaller, I assure you. It's only a modest circle around a rotting tree stump, which I'm sure they love feeding off of. I must have bought 5 or 6 of the small packets but I also wanted it to be varried and got a different mix every time. Pollinator mix, wildflower mix, perennial mix. You probably won't need that much because now I remember some of the packets I picked out were of individual flowers like cosmos.

I really enjoyed your blog; your way of telling stories and showing things is beautiful. I hope new plants grow from those seeds; I was so surprised to see where they came from, haha. I've always wanted a garden, but I don't have the space. Even so, I have some succulents and cacti that I collected near my house, and I also love going out into the countryside to take pictures of wild plants. Thanks for the post!

Thanks! You can create a mini indoor garden. As you could see I've been trying to grow new succulents too.

Seeing these sprouts and progress reminds me of the state of neglect my garden is in, haha.

Happy weekend!
