Hello to my fellow gardeners,
Today, I want to share something simple from our farm that gives us many benefits a vegetable garden.

Our garden is not very wide, but my husband always tries to make use of the space we have. We planted eggplant, squash, ampalaya, bottle gourd, and alogbati. We also have some okra at the end of the garden, but my husband was not able to capture it in the pictures.

For me, having a vegetable garden is a big help to our family. One of the best benefits is having free vegetables for our meals. When we need something for cooking, we can simply go to the garden and pick what is ready to harvest. We do not always need to buy vegetables from the market.

Another good thing is that we can also earn a little from it. We usually harvest about twice a week, depending on what is ready. We sell some of the vegetables to our customers. Even though our garden is small, they like buying from us because they can find different vegetables in one place. Sometimes, they can already complete the ingredients they need for pinakbet.

Eggplant is one of our favorites because there are so many ways to cook it. We can grill it, make tortang talong, mix it with other vegetables, or simply cook it with eggs. That is why it is also one of the vegetables that sells well for us.

Right now, my husband and I are not together because I am staying in the mountains to help take care of a sick family member. But even though I am away, he continues taking care of our farm.
While waiting for the rice harvest, he decided to plant more vegetables and other crops. Instead of just waiting, he keeps himself busy by planting something that can give us food or extra income later.

This is one thing I learned from farming: we do not always need a big farm to start. Even a small space beside the house can be used for planting. You can start with just a few seeds of eggplant, okra, squash, or other vegetables that grow well in your area.

A garden can help you save money, give you fresh food, and even provide a little extra income. More importantly, it teaches us patience because we need to plant, care for, and wait before we can enjoy the harvest.

So if you have an empty space at home, why not try planting something? You might be surprised how much a small garden can give you. It takes only a short time like 2 months of waiting.

For us, every harvest may be small, but every vegetable we pick is already a blessing.
