How Our Simple Chayote Garden Grows Fresh Food and Helps Our Family Every Day

Hello Hive Garden friends!
Today I want to share our chayote garden here in the mountain and why we chose to plant this kind of vegetable at home.

Today the price of vegetables in the market is getting higher, including chayote. I still remember when I was still studying, sayote was very cheap and easy to buy anytime. It was one of the most affordable vegetables before. But now, things have changed. The price has gone up a lot. In some places, one sack of chayote can cost around 1,000 pesos or more, which is already a big amount for many families.

Because of that, we decided to plant chayote in our own garden since then, It is a big help for us, especially now that many daily needs are expensive. Instead of buying often from the market, we can harvest fresh vegetables from our backyard.

What I really like about chayote is that it is very easy to plant. We do not need to spend money on seeds. We simply use a mature sayote fruit that has started to sprout. Once it is ready, we place it in the soil and let it grow naturally.

We also do not use fertilizer. We just let it grow on its own. After planting, we wait for the vine to climb and spread. It does not need too much attention compared to other crops. That is why I can say it is one of the easiest plants to maintain.

After around three months, it starts to bear fruits. It feels good every time I see new chayote hanging from the vine because I know our small effort has become something useful for our family.

Aside from being easy to grow, chayote is also very useful in cooking. We use it in soups, stir fry dishes, and mixed vegetables. Even the young tops can be cooked partner with bagoong. Nothing is wasted.

For me, planting chyote is practical and rewarding. It helps lessen expenses, provides fresh food, and gives satisfaction whenever we harvest.
