Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Global Warming Modifier

Greetings to all Splinterlands players and Midnight Letters community! This is my entry to this week's Community Engagement Challenge. The topic for this week is Modifiers. In today's post I'll show how I play with modifiers and the cards I use to best fit the game.

Global Warming Modifier

The Global Warming Modifier is classified as a negative battle modifiers. Noxious Fumes and Earthquake are other like negative modifiers. They are negative because they decrease the lives of the units in each round. Specifically for Global Warming, all units have the Burning status effect applied at the start of combat. Burning causes units to lose two health at the at the start of round two.

Team to Choose

For all types of negative modifiers, I choose units with high attack and high life stats. High speed is great too if I can have it so that my team attacks first. The first two stats are the most important for me to consider in choosing my team. Earth element in general has high health stats that can be chosen in games. In my games, I chose Water element because of the combination of high attack and some high health units. There is a unit, Mystic Scaleweaver that slows down the opponent so it's a bonus skill.

Global Warming Modifier Games

I chose Water element in this game while my opponent chose Earth. These are the teams that can be considered in negative modifier games. Water combines high attack with sufficient health. I also chose units with high speed in order to attack first. My opponent chose Earth, known for their high health plus Earth has a unit with Cleanse skill, able to remove the Burning status from front line units.

Anyway, my team is composed of four high health units in the forty mana game. Commander Slade is a good tank in this game having eight health and three attack. He's a combo of speed, attack and high health that is great in this game. Second is Torrent Sniper who has eight health and three magic attack. His speed is not great but he makes up for it with his high health. Next is Mindless Thrall. He only has five health but has great speed and high magic attack. Lastly is Mystic Scaleweaver who has high health and three magic attack. It also decreases the speed of my opponent.

My opponent had the Earth team, known for high health and durability. Dread Tafarian has healing that can restores some health. Time Bandit has Cleanse skill that removes burning effect from the front line unit. These two are a great combo for this specific game but his other units are not to be desired. They have low health and low attack units that will die in a few rounds and not make much damage. His chances of winning will increase if he had chosen other units with higher health or attack like Kicking Roc, Mad Gearhead or Wilhemdale Deputy.

The burning status effect took its toll on both of our teams. My team has less units overall but has more health and attack individually. The opponent has sufficient health and aided by the Aurelia archon +1 health to all units. It was a close fight but my healthier units won the game.

Conclusion

Negative Modifiers are to be thought of when making teams. The important stats of members when forming teams are high health first then high attack next. If we can have units with high numbers in all three then the winning chances increase. In such modifiers, Water and Earth are the top teams to consider because of their high attack and health.
