It's been a long while since I walked the streets of Gielinor, coming close to two years since I last played OSRS. Recently some friends of mine have been playing once again and I decided to check out my account, if all has remained the same or if I had been hacked like so many over the years without noticing, thankfully I logged in all okay!
It looks like the last time I was playing I was grinding out more thieving, now I already have 99 thieving, I have 99 on most skills. But I remember blood shards were at an all time high and pickpocketing with the rouges outfit returns double the pickpocketed loot, so I would farm blood shards for extra GP on the side to invest in items I need or want, or bonds.
Bonds are uses to exchange in game currency for membership time, the mechanic is very smart and rewarding to players who keep the game alive. Especially the ones who can make good money in the time they own a membership, if you've purchased a bond you've got 14 days to grind away and try earn back the cost of the bond! (at least that is how I like to play!)
Returning to OldSchool means I am membership-less currently. And I'm unsure If I would like to purchase membership, It's nice coming back for a visit and to see what has changed but I am unsure what I would do playing wise. My account is good, my stats are good, I can aim to finish all skills and hit 99's on them but I lack the motivation for it. Skilling just feels so tedious these days when you don't have the will or time.
I could try my hand at more PVM'ing (player vs monster) but I can't play how I see people play these days and it's uninspiring. I can't complete as many kills as them per inventory of food, I can barely manage one or two bosses sometimes with the same gear, invent and food setups. I just lack the skills to keep up and that's okay! I always preferred the general playing of Runescape and the fun it provided, finishing almost all skills of burnt me out after years of playing actively. I had a lot of fun and enjoyment!
My bank is quite valuable which is a shame to see it go to waste! I used to merchant items while playing which provided me some good funds, along with my general hoarding whenever I play games like this, I end up with thousands of one item worth a lot of value and still can't bring myself to sell the damn things. π
Case and point! I have close to 17,000 crushed birds nests which sell decently high each. I do remember last time playing each being worth over 8000 so I've lost quite a bit of funds in that item price drop! on a plus side they are used for the herblore skill so I was some-what self funding myself what I need to complete that skill off completely. I feel if I do rejoin, when I have more time to play perhaps in the summer time or coming weeks, I would aim to finish off 99 herblore, slayer & magic. Then finally make some pushes towards construction and magic which will drain my gold funds, not looking forward to those, very boring and tedious grinds. π
Upon returning today also to check out the changes over the last two years I expected the new sailing skill to have been released by now, seems they are still ever working on this thing. It's been a long time since I last saw news regarding the new skill and at the time it was public testing of sailing and how it can be improved. So it doesn't seem much was liked about the thing if its still in the works!
It's been like 20 years since I walked these streets myself. I think I'd hate the slow pace of the game today if I went back to it. That skill page is very impressive.
I think that was the enjoyment of it for me, back then at least. Throw on netflix and start grinding away at one of the many skills! Always seemed like there was something to do, now days not so much sadly, just many hours investing into a skill to say I've completed it π
