Good advice. Based on this, maybe I wasn’t too wrong in my choice of positioning this ranger, especially since I didn’t know for sure before battle what my opponent will bring.

A range card before a magic card will not really work, 8 of out of ten times it wouldn't. Most times, you should balance your thoughts of what the enemy might put out but make sure you also do the basic things too.
