Hey battle mages, I mentioned in my Battle Strategy Post Last Week that I’ll hopefully be sharing sample battle of the strategy I shared to show you how efficient it can be. Well, I will be delivering as promised in this post today. Unfortunately, this battle does not fit the criteria I taught to use the strategy in, but I just wanted to use it in battle for you to see, so this battle did not end with me smiling. My loss honestly left me in shock, which is all the more reason I’m sharing it. Okay, let’s talk details now.

If you remember the post I referenced earlier, I mentioned that the strategy I shared was best suited to defend against melee heavy monsters. My opponent's line up as you can see is not exactly very melee based. Sure, they have two melee monsters, but their use of magic monsters gives them an edge over me, unfortunately. I believe this played a huge role in their winning.

This is the exact strategy I shared about in my last post. Cryptic check, Cursed Windeku check, Kulu Mastermind check, Disintegrator check, Tank Heal check. And as I advised in that post, I had about 3 unfilled positions for flexibility.

I obviously anticipated that my opponent would come to battle with a melee lineup, which is why I came with this strategy. Lucky for them, they doged me.

I know that when I was sharing my strategy, I advised you to put Cursed Windeku in first position like I did, so that it's thorns would do considerable damage. For this battle in particular, the ruleset amplified the thorns ability of Cursed Windeku, which was a completely lucky coincidence I didn't even consider when I was selecting my lineup.

In second position, I put Kulu for his opportunity, followed by DeepLurker which also has opportunity. I wanted to bring Merdaali Guardian next to Kulu so she could be weaponised, but I didn't do it because one, even with the weaponised melee, it'd be useless in that position. At the same time, it would now be closer to front line, which is bad considering it has such a low health. I needed it as farther back as I could, whiles also being aware that if it went to far back, it would be susceptible to snipes. So middle was just perfect spot to put it.

After Merdaali, I lined Dhampir Stalker. Funny name. Anywho, as I'm sure you already know, I don't fancy ranged attacks much, so I chose him because I was cornered and he had a considerable range attack, so yeah.

In last position, I had Djinn Oshannus. Good choice, but because my analysis didn't really pan out, he's in the wrong position. His void magic would've been super handy if I put him in first position. But still, since my opponent didn't have sneaks, he lived long enough to cause some good damage to my opponent's line up.

The battle itself

I'm going to let you watch the battle to help me figure out when the odds tipped in my opponent's favor, because I can't tell the exact point in the battle. Things look pretty good in the very early parts of the battle, until I think around round 4, then my optimism slowly faded until my smile got completely wiped off my face.

I think you were the catalyst of your own downfall here. Putting a range card before a magic card which doesn't have a close range ability is guaranteed to not always work.

Remember no matter how powerful your cards are they attack only once per each round. So if you have put the healer card right infront of your range which was supposed to be the last card it would have been a battle you would have easily won.

Yes, you're right. I didn't want to put either the ranger or healer too much towards the back because I was skeptical my opponent might have sneaks and they'd kill them quickly. I'll rethink some other positioning arrangement next time.

I think you made a rockie mistake by putting the Djinn Oshannus behind that range monster, and that was the main reason why you lost the game.

Ahh yes, that is true. I would've put the ranger at the back, but his low health made me skeptical about that, because if my opponent had a snipe,they'd quickly kill it. Djinn Oshannus was actually there as more of a shield. Do you think in subsequent battles, I should push the ranger to the back regardless?

I think follow the rules first, if you overthink a Ruleset then you'll lose the game. Mellee, magic and range in that order. Unless the range card can attack from the front, or the Ruleset permits.
