Right, but there are still charts of available nodes on a network. I have seen it on many other blockchains, but I haven't seen a chart for this on Hive. I have look on HiveHub and HiveExplorer and they list different amount of witnesses. HH show 500, and HE 200. But not a chart to see how much have they been increased online or have went offline in the past 5 years.
The amount of nodes isn't the same as the amount of witnesses. Witnesses are nodes that produce blocks. I run only one witness node, but I probably run upwards of 10 nodes. It's not easy to get a list of the active nodes, partly thats on purpose as it makes them more difficult to attack.
