Made me drool at the time back in the Steem days, it was on my old account where I was seeing one cool shiny item after the other and first learned about the Silver Gold stackers on the platform. At the time, I could not afford to buy such things as an investment, in fact, most of my earnings at the time were put towards getting to the end of the month because we were still trying to build back our lives from scratch in a new country.
Luck was not really on our side as big promises were made by employers while none of them lived up to that. We took the best job options offered a few times but they ended up being not what was promised. Yet, even with the much lower earnings, it was a start to build back everything we had lost a few years earlier. So in the end, it was ok.
The first years in Budapest, we were under constant stress, my boyfriend mostly because he had to deal with all the bs in person, while I only had to deal with his frustrations and stories about what happened now. I realise all too well that if all of this would have gone smoother, the frustrations about living there would have been a bit less because we missed out on so many things the first 2,5 years when we were in survival mode and didn't have a car. Life really got better after we finally managed to purchase one.
When the worst part of the pandemic was over, we could finally see light at the end of the tunnel and I started focussing on moving back to Spain, somehow, as long as it happened, we were open to options. I learned in those 6 months when we pulled the trigger that we'd do it, that if I set my mind to something, I can do anything. I was highly motivated and did insane budgeting to pay of the loan, credit card and overdraft we had to leave with a clean slate. None of us was willing to travel back there to close these accounts later, we wanted to close the book for good.
It was in this last 6 month period that I also decided that I wanted to have a silver coin from Hungary to take with me as a souvenir. It was there where my actual silver journey started, finally, after wanting to get in for 5 years without success. To some it may seem like nothing, one silver round, but for me it had meaning.
I was mostly lured to the side with the tree of life and had no clue that buying a coin with 10000 HUF face value was not that common as at the time that was around 28,50 euro. Seeing the amount of coins with a face value of just a few euros max this was a lucky pick.
It also just had a mintage of 4000 pieces which didn't mean much to me at the time either. I also didn't know it was a so called proof coin. I've tried to find back what I paid for it but I believe it was 10000 HUF, the face value of the coin but I can't find it back just yet. I remember that the price I paid was a bit over the silver value and the price of silver was around 20 euros that month that I bought it so paying 28,50 (10000 HUF value at the time) is what I think it was.
Edit: I overlooked at the time that it was sterling silver, let's call it a rookie mistake, haha. Today I was reminded by @thebighigg that this is not a .999 silver coin. Either way, I think it's still a good buy.
As I wanted to dig back and see if any of my coins had greater value today besides the weight in silver, I googled the coin and found a few listings of 60-79 dollar for this coin. Of course I know these are just listings and it doesn't mean anyone will buy it but seeing the low mintage and expected price of silver to rise, I will hold on to it and see what happens in the next years before I consider selling it.
It's a part of my story this coin, so I would not want to part with it already, even though I have much prettier coins in my collection now. I don't think I did bad with this purchase at all. Today the price of silver is 25,11 euros so that's a growth of 25% in terms of silver value alone. Can't complain about that, can I?
Funnily enough the value of 10000 HUF today is also very close to that: 25,34 euro. I knew the HUF dropped since we left, but I didn't know how much until I looked it up today. Luckily for us, the income back then was in euros, so swapping things to HUF every month while the HUF dropped meant that we saw the HUF income grow, and our bills were all paid in HUF, so I consider this coin a little gift from those profits.. It was great timing having euro income while the price of HUF kept dropping, every month we had more forints on our account to spend.
I think I will track down all these purchases so far to see how I'm doing because I didn't keep track on the silver prices at the time of purchase to see how much the value went up of my silver. I like to see the growth so expect a few more of these posts when I feel like going back in time...

Thanks! I'm now adding the coins into a sheet so I have more clarity about the value but it takes a bit of digging back. It's fun to check back on these purchases though..

That's a nice coin! Interesting that they made it with sterling silver. These days you don't see that much. I wouldn't sell it either if I were you!
Doesn't it feel good to leave the days of stress behind? Finally getting to Spain must have felt so good!
I really need to get my PIMP up higher, two tips isn't enough!

Oof, I remember seeing that but forgot (and overlooked) it today when creating this post so my calculations are off in terms of silver price. Will edit that.. rookie mistake lol.
I remember seeing it here in Spain with the Spanish mint as well and I recently ordered two of these coins made from sterling silver because of their high face value.
Now I know that I was probably spot on about the price because it wasn't pure silver but price at face value that I paid..

You always remember your first…..
Haha, very true, even though it was 0.925 silver haha which at the time this rookie didn't realise but I was reminded by thebighigg today lol. It's fine though.. I have two more of sterling silver on the way..

tokens.@thisismylife, You have received 1.0000 LOH for posting in Ladies of Hive. We believe that you should be rewarded for the time and effort spent in creating articles. The goal is to encourage token holders to accumulate and hodl LOH tokens over a long period of time.
Love that backstory to your first silver, cool coin as well. Ain't nothing wrong with .925 ✨
Thank you! Well, I have to be honest and say that I didn't think anything of that until the next purchase where I noticed everything was 0.999 and not 0.925. But I have two more sterling on the way with the exact face value as the purchase price. That made me pull the trigger on them..
Now the task to add all my coins into a sheet to see the growth in value over time.
Thanks for stopping by !PIMP
Very nice coin for your first. Glad to hear things are looking up for you and you are on your stacking journey.
