This is only my second year participating in the secret santa exchange that the #silvergoldstackers community puts on every year. I was a bit nervous to participate last year just because I am not the sort of person who does new things like that. I'm really glad I took the leap and did it though, I got to send some silver to a different country last year and I also got to recieve some silver from all the way over in the Czech Republic.
How cool is that?
As you can see, I am being cryptic about where I sent silver last year and this year because it is called "secret santa" after all, but I can tell you that this year I received something from someone a bit more local than Europe. I'm still not going to say where, but it was a very welcome surprise.
As you can see from the opening photo, it all came in a pretty big box. When we pulled in the driveway and @mrsobzz saw it on the porch she said "what would that be". She does most the Christmas shopping in our house, so if she isn't expecting a package, it draws her attention. I said it was probably my secret santa gift. She said "in such a big box?". I guess so!
When I opened the box, I was surprised to see all the goodies that were in store for me. Could it all be silver? No, I knew that likely wasn't the case as reading other people's posts I have learned that people like to send extra things with their silver. Specifically chocolate!
I also found this card with a note to open last. Oddly enough, the envelope had a little heft to it. Like maybe an ounce or more... Hmmm, I wonder what that could be?
@mrsbozz and I don't exchange gifts during the holidays for a couple of reasons that I won't get into here. That meant that this was my only present under the tree to open on Christmas day, so I dug into it with the vigor of a child on Christmas morning.
First I opened this awesome mug with candy canes in it. What a perfect vessel for all the hot cocoa my wife was gifted by students over the holidays. You can actually see some of the hot cocoa she got in the background of the second photo above. I'm super eager to try out those "hot cocoa bombs".
Next I opened this wonderful tin of butter shortbread cookies. With a name like McGinnis, I can only assume they came from Scotland which is where some of the best shortbread is made in my opinion.
I also got this Orange flavored dark chocolate orange. Dark chocolate is my favorite, so well played on that one!
I'm a sucker for a good peppermint patty, so this was a real treat when I opened the box of Thin Mints (not to be confused with the Girl Scout cookies, but just as tasty!).
Finally, the last of the wrapped presents yielded these delicious caramels and peanut butter clusters. I am not ashamed to say that I have already opened and tried each one of the delicacies that were went to me and they are all amazing!
That just leaves the card and as instructed, I opened it last!
Unlike some folks who have been doing this for a while, I am not able to identify handwriting, so the secret santa remains a mystery to me. I have a few guesses, but I don't think I need to embarrass myself by making them public!
My treat for waiting so patiently? This amazing 2016 1 oz coin from Canada. I've learned in my time in this group that it is in fact a coin because it has a dollar value on it. Also, being from 2016, it has the Queen on it versus the newer ones that have the King on them.
Living so close to Canada in Michigan, this piece is very special to me. I'd buy a whole stack of Maple Leaf's if I could afford them. Perhaps one day I will be able to.
I'm so thankful to be able to add this to my stack and I really love this community that I have grow to be a part of over the years.
I love this! Also that maple is beautiful I think they are my favorite coins I own.
Sweet a Reverse cameo Maple! Awesome! 🍁
