A good son always returns home, again I was away from the Hive for a while. Work, children and studies have consumed almost all of my time these last two months, but I'm returning today. This post is long overdue, I started writing it over a month ago.
Without further ado, today's post is for the Battle Mage Secrets event with the Earthquake rule, the match selected was in the silver league of the modern format, it's very difficult to move up to gold in the modern format, but with these latest updates I'd better start survive in the modern format π.
Rule | Description |
---|---|
EARTHQUAKE | Nom-flying monsters take melle damage at the end of each round. |
Earthquake is a very cool and different rule, it will cause two damage to all units without the ability to fly at the beginning of each round, so the best strategy for this rule is to give preference to units with FLY π€£, avoiding as much as possible fragile units without this ability, as they will die quickly due to the damage, it is worth remembering that the damage of the earthquake is physical so armor and shield can help hold this annoying damage every round.
My main strategy is to do the basics, if the unit is fragile it has to have at least the FLY ability, without that it will hardly enter the field, I really like to use units with martyr and protect, as well as summoners that have armor bonuses, because they guarantee at least 1 round of life in this rule, I take a balanced stance.
Abilities | Nome | Description |
---|---|---|
https://splinterguide.com/img/ability_flying.png | Flying | Main ability against this rule, making your unit immune to damage at the beginning of each round, highly recommended. |
https://splinterguide.com/img/ability_heal.png | Heal | This ability is always useful, as it will provide more support for the unit to withstand the harsh damage of the match. |
https://splinterguide.com/img/ability_protect.png | Protect | Excellent skill for this rule, protecting all your units from at least 1 hit from the earthquake. |
https://splinterguide.com/img/ability_martyr.png | Martyr | Incredible ability if positioned right, when the unit dies due to earthquake damage it can buff units next to it. |
https://splinterguide.com/img/ability_shield.png | Shield | Earthquake damage is physical, so this ability will reduce the damage of this rule to a measly 1 damage, although it is also useful against your opponent's physical attacks. |
https://splinterguide.com/img/ability_triage.png | Triage | It will heal your back line units hit by the earthquake, nothing more. |
https://splinterguide.com/img/ability_snare.png | Snare | One of the worst skills in the game, but here it can be useful, in fact I think that only in the earthquake rule can it be useful since there is a high chance of units with flying appearing. |
Card | LineUP |
---|---|
https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/chaos/Grandmaster%20Rathe_lv3.png | Summoner : Excellent defensive summoner, its armor bonus will allow my units to ignore at least one round of the earthquake, in addition to increasing magic reflect damage. |
https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/reward/Pelacor%20Conjurer_lv8.png | Tank : Even without being able to attack directly, this unit can be very useful in the match, as in addition to having Fly it can also reflect part of the magical damage it receives. Some damage of this type must certainly appear, as melee units are limited due to the fog of war rule. |
https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/soulbound/Venari%20Marksrat_lv6.png | Off-Tank: Placed precisely to die due to the damage of the earthquake thus activating its martyr, in addition to being able to take down some units with flying thanks to its almost useless Snare skill π. |
https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/chaos/Adelade%20Brightwing_lv3.png | Suport: One of the best supports to use in combination with Grandmaster Rathe, it will always have armor to restore and will also block magical damage, in addition, it can even resurrect the first allied unit that falls. |
https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/chaos/Celestial%20Harpy_lv6.png | DPS : Cheap unit that will look for the opponent's weak units. |
https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/soulbound/War%20Pegasus_lv6.png | DPS: I don't really like this unit but it has Fly to play well under the earthquake rule and still manages to do good damage. |
https://d36mxiodymuqjm.cloudfront.net/cards_by_level/chaos/Dax%20Paragon_lv6.png | Suport: It is in the safest position due to the Fog of War rule, in addition to its small damage it will be able to cut off the healing of an opposing unit. |
Analyzing the match: My opponent focused on the units with martyr and surrounded his main units with them, my harpy will accelerate this buff, Quora should arrive on the front line very powerful, the good thing is that my tank is very strong against magic damage it will return much of this damage, if I pass through Quora the victory will be practically guaranteed.
Round 1 - The first card eliminated was the opponent's rat, which buffed the powerful Quora shortly afterwards. My tank resisted the initial round very well and dealt good damage to the opponent's magic units, it finished the round practically unscathed.
Round 2 - This round was a bit warm without any eliminations, but things are heading towards the final round, my tank is still firm and strong on the front line and the opposing team is already very weakened due to the earthquake and Magic Reflect.
Round 3 -And finally the match ends, the earthquake passes and eliminates 3 of the opponent's 4 remaining units, leaving only the Regal Peryton on the field, which despite being super powerful had its damage reflected, dying shortly after from its own attack.
My strategy was simple, but it worked, I played according to the rules of the match, taking advantage of the tranquility in the last positions and avoiding fragile units without flying, my tank was excellent being one of the best options for this type of combat, my rat did almost nothing, because the match ended earlier than I expected, the Harpy ended up helping my opponent by speeding up his martyr buff, Adelade managed to keep my tank alive and didn't need to resurrect him, the Pegasus did some good damage and helped well in the match and the Dax didn't do much damage and couldn't cancel Quora's healing.
Earthquake is an easy rule to play, just give preference to units with the fly ability or that are robust enough to last a few rounds, remember that earthquake damage is 2 per turn, any unit with less than 2HP and without Flying will only be able to play the first round.
