Social Media Challenge - Racing Against Time With Cards I Face For The First Time

Prelude
Good day to all, hope that you are doing well and battling often in Splinterlands. It is time again for another battle sharing on a match encounter that happened over the span of this week. Today I will be showcasing a match where I face 2 cards that I have never faced while doing ranked battles and both of them are from Dragon Splinter.

It was quite an interesting match as I have never seen this combination and hence the decision to share with the community.

The 2 cards that I faced for the first time are:

Runeseer Sevaya

This card looks really good in terms of the abilities that she gives. Almost all of it are very good defensively such as cleanse and protect and at high levels, repair and blind. When given some weapons training, this card will be even better.

Redwyrm Dragon

Key think for this card will be the immunity and flying which is a fantastic choice for both earthquake and noxious fumes. An amazing card which I think I should add to my collection.

And indeed today's sharing will be a match that has Noxious Fumes ruleset and will be first time I face this 2 cards.

Mana Limit: 18

Selection Analysis
We have 5 splinters available for selection - Water, earth, life, death and dragon. I had a hard time to decide which Splinter to use especially there is a very tight mana margin on whom I can call onto the field. Typical days, I would have pick something that allows me to outlast my opponent but somehow something just went into me that since Noxious Fumes already accelerate the match, maybe I can even make it end faster by using a high risk high reward card in Shock Trooper and hence water splinter was selected.

So here is my selection of the lineup. With only 18 mana at my disposal, I had to find a combination that the high risk high reward strategy can still allow me some sustainability. On tank position, I went with Halfling Refugee since this card is super value with 1 mana to give 6 health. Next will be my favourite water splinter card, Oshannus which have a hefty health on it which will be able to help me sustain a little while more. Next card in line will be Shock Trooper which will allow a massive 4 magic damage onto opponent cards but at the price of 1 health per turn for my own cards. The remaining 2 cards are fodder which are for sneak card prevention though within a turn, they both will fall.

On my opponent end, game plan seems to be similar with Halfling Refugee leading the front line. But after that, everything else is very different. There is a Torrent Fiend as fodder then comes Runeseer Sevaya which I guess give additional armour to the team and at the same time aims to cleanse Halfling Refugee. The next card that follows is Redwyrm Dragon which has immunity and will outlast all cards since it will not be affected by Noxious Fumes. On paper, this looked like a good lineup to outlast mine.

However, with a small tweak from trying to outlast to go for high risk high reward, I seem to have a path out against my opponent's well thought lineup. Let's go right to the battle itself.

Round by Round Synopsis

Round 1 - Everything moved really fast as there is target practice, every of my magic attack went directly to Runeseer Sevaya and she was taken out immediately in this round, even before she cleanse Halfling Refugee.

Round 2 - After poison applied, we are just left with Halfling Refugee and magic attackers from each side. Things move even faster when the magic attackers starting striking and we are effectively left with a super exposed Redwyrm Dragon at only 1 HP while my Oshannus is still standing strong at 8 health.

Round 3 - After applying Poison, Shock Trooper fell but it was down to a Oshannus which has higher health and able to strike first versus opponent's Redwyrm Dragon. A simple nudge and we secured victory for the match.

Battle Summary
I think this is an interesting take on the matchup and the noxious fumes ruleset where instead of trying to outlast, I used a more aggressive method to wind down opponent card health and allowed for a simple tap in victory. This might not work everytime but for me when I saw that mana was a little tight, so I thought why not just accelerate what the ruleset is already doing and try to end it even fast by landing big hits. Glad that I altered my strategy and capture a nice win!
