Social Media Challenge - Lvl 2 Coeurl Lurker Tough Card To Beat But We Did It

Good day to all, how are all of you doing? Hope all of you are doing good. I am back again to do another battle sharing with the community on some special and memorable matches that I encounter as I play Splinterlands throughout the week. Today's match features a card that I always find hard to beat and it comes from the Riftwatchers set. I have previous encounters with the card and especially against a level 2 one, it is exceptionally hard. And this is why this match is memorable to share.

The card that I am referring to is the Coerul Lurker. This card is like a super tank when at level 2 and here is why:

Looking at the level growth of this card, at level 2 the card will possess abilities to handle all 3 kinds of attack (melee, range and magic) with the dodge and phase ability imbued in it. At level 1, it is already a superb crazy tank for melee. This card possess high health and very decent 4 attack at base, not forgetting it has taunt that sucks all attack towards it to keep others safe. Not to forget at max level, it further punishes melee cards with thorns to return the melee damage. This is such a desirable tank card for almost all occasions if able to support the mana requirements.

Many a times, what we see on the battle field is a level 2 variant because it has already fulfil the needs of being a tank. And because it makes such a good tank, whenever you see this card in opponent lineup, you will have doubt if you can even overcome it, and even when you can, probably your cards are already badly injured. So today, I've picked a particular matchup that I had recently before the battle UI changed where I manage to go head on nicely with it. And let's get right to the battle.

Selection Analysis
I made a post over the weekend on my favourite strategy for water splinter using the double martyr. And that is essentially the game plan I had for the match.

The 3 important pieces of the lineup will be the sacrificial lamb in Venari Marksrat to trigger martyr, the orchestrator in River Hellondale for the resurrect and finally the boosted in Oshannus in order for us to go toe to toe with Coeurl Lurker. In terms of the back line, it included a Torrent Fiend for additional sandbag while there are two range hitters included as well. I have decided to include them for Swamp Spitter is a hard hitting range with repair which is very important for survival for whoever in the team down on armour while Mar Torren Seeker is also there as a defensive back line card with the dodge for helping to prevent crumbling from the back. And that is how I line up to face my opponent.

On my opponent's side, the front tank is defintely Coeurl Lurker which is will be tough to deal with. Followed by Scorch Fiend, probably there same reason as my Torrent Fiend. Following it is Venator Kinjo which gave slow, boosting capability of Coerul Lurker defence. The next in line is Uraeus which is more levelled up with both sneak and poison. And next will be Fina Voxom, a gladius card that is no easy card to handle due to the opportunity and blood lust, meaning it will also seek out low health cards to kill and grow. Lastly is Supply Runner with swiftness. Combined with summoner, it is a total of 3 speed boost onto opponent lineup, which makes Coerul Lurker an even tougher foe.

My opponent had a very strong game plan to maximize the effectiveness of Coerul Lurker to allow others to strike. I had my plan too, but will I prevail? Let's battle!

Round by Round Synopsis

Round 1 - Surprisingly, with all the action here and there. There was so many dodge that happened in this round that Marksrat only fell one time to enable martyr once. Every other card is unscathe, which is scary because even magic attacks are not hitting.

Round 2 - A little more action on this round with Oshannus gaining the 2nd martyr after Marksrat falls. Torrent Fiend was hit, but Swamp Spitter recovered its armour while Mar Torren Seeker managed another dodge. Coeurl Lurker while damaged, still going strong.

Round 3 - The round where things start to favour me as Oshannus dropped in hard onto Coeurl Lurker and Swamp Spitter took the final blow while Mar Torren Seeker continues dodging. River Hellondale did a zap on Scorch Fiend and now we need to steady ourselves with the tank gone.

Round 4, Oshannus cleared Venator Kinja, giving us back some speed while Fina Voxom killed Torrent Fiend and got bigger. Remaining lineup all safe and well.

Round 5 and 6, in round 5, Uraeus was easily disposed off from the front while Supply Runner was taken out by Mar Torren Seeker. With the only target left in Fina Voxom, it was easily cleared in round 6. A nice win as we overcome a very tough card.

Battle Summary
If not for Oshannus, this match would have been a very tough one to drop the health of Coerul Lurker. And this is where my favourite strategy of double martyr using the 3 cards to boost up Oshannus comes in really handy in order to go toe to toe with Coerul Lurker. Otherwise, we would most likely be stuck with not doing damage to opponent, considering there is so much speed alterations he did to strengthen Coerul Lurker. Mar Torren Seeker was a surprise as it dodge so many attacks this match too.

Wrap Up
The key to winning the match was the correct application of the strategy to match up in terms of stats against it so that we are not too far off which could potentially give our opponent a big advantage. Thankfully I have the right set of cards to pull up the strategy to secure the win.
