Social Media Challenge - Gonna Miss Playing This Combo In Modern

Good day to all, hope that you are doing well and battling often in Splinterlands. The dawn of a new era is here. The new set Conclave Arcana which brings about a change in not just another new set of cards, but gameplay/strategy wise we will see a significant shift. The combos and cards that we are all familiar with especially those in the Chaos Legion core and reward set that are so well established are no longer available in modern. So today, I shall share with the community my favourite combo in modern previously and mark in it a post as I start looking into strategies in the new modern where it will only comprise of Rebellion and Conclave Arcana.

The favourite combo that I will be sharing will be from Water Splinter and it will be the double martyr combo with Djinn Oshannus as the apex card to harness the effects of the double martyr to help lead the charge and win the game.

Elements of this combo that I use is that you will need this 3 core cards to pull it off:

Venari Marksrat - The sacrificial one. This card will need to die 2 times in order to trigger martyr twice. But the key will be that, this card must be killed fast in order to boost up Oshannus early.

River Hellondale - The wizard behind the dying of 2 times for Marksrat. This card gives resurrect and that it why this card creates a 2nd dying of Marksrat to re-trigger martyr.

Djinn Oshannus - While the double martyr can land on any card, so far this has been the card that had been outstanding and upon receiving the double martyr, this card is hard to get hit especially when you have the phase ability which further ensures minimal attack from any kind will land on it.

So let's get right into the match.

Selection Analysis
We have 5 splinters available for selection - Water, Earth, Life, Death and Dragon. A nice choice of splinters but I really like the combo that I want to share in this post, the inclination was to choose water splinter which will let me pull off what I need.

So here is my selection of the lineup. I've chosen to go with Kelya Frendul, my trusty sumoner since the days when Chaos Legion was the anchoring set. In terms of the tank, there is no tank but a sacrificial lamb which is Venari Marksrat, the goal here is to let my enemy unload whatever they have on Marksrat to let martyr trigger upon Marksrat being killed. Next will be the beneficiary of the martyr, Djinn Oshannus whom already have fantastic stats not forgetting there is also the What Doesn't Kill You ruleset. Next in line will be Nerissa Tridawn which is another massive stats card with big magic attack. Following Nerissa will be the critical card River Hellondale that is meant to resurrect Marksrat to retrigger a 2nd martyr. The next 2 cards are a striker in Riverboat Captain which strikes for 2 damage and blast which will not be effective in this match since everyone gets deflection field (Magi of Chaos is a better choice here) and followed by Swamp Spitter that repairs broken armour to give stronger survivability.

On my opponent end, my opponent used Elias Max Pruitt which is a tactics summoner capable of running both water and life splinter. First in the line will be one of my favourite water splinter tank Commander Slade with the ability to weaken melee attack and also have nice stats/dodge capability. Following Slade is Corsair Bosun which is another massive big stat attacker that can strike from 2nd position. Opponent also have a Marksrat planed to boost their next card and Bosun as well. Next card is Olivia of The Brook. I call this the ability sucker as this card will gain abilities from the set of abilities from the cards fielded round by round after the first. Nimbledook Explorer and also Supply Runners are team buff carriers whom will give additional stats to the lineup.

My opponent's lineup is a very strong one with careful thoughts to further gain advantage planned. But because I have my combo planned, we still got this under control, so let's o into the battle synopsis.

Round by Round Synopsis

Round 1 - What a busy round 1 with my goal of seeing Marksrat dying twice happening right within this round and we manae to boost Oshannus to a 4 magic attack high health/speed card which will be so hard to get hit. Time to see how a boosted Oshannus stand against this strong lineup. Not only that, the crazy magic strikes my lineup had just tore Commander Slade apart with ease.

Round 2 - The magic blasting begins and we managed to clear out Corsair Bosun. But Olivia was able to take out my River Hellondale. The match is very much for the taking especially with a crazily buffed Oshannus.

Round 3 - A not so exciting round with only just Marksrat falling but I do see loads of dodge happening as Oshannus continue to hold the fort at the front with no significant damage dealt to it.

Round 4, Oshannus continue to shine as I saw how it can continue dodging so many attack and taking out or severely injuring cards with the big damage it has. At the end of this round, we clear Olivia and Nimbledook Explorer. One final sitting duck remain.

Round 5, With just an attack-less range card at the front, it was just a simple task to send it off and claim the victory. A nice match won with a massively boosted Oshannus that stared down at everything that came in its way.

Battle Summary
This combo had led me through so many battles in modern match and it is sad to see that it will no longer be available in modern now due to bulk of the cards coming from Chaos Legion set which got rotated out. Will miss this in modern but it just means we might see more of this in Wild format.
