Adapting to Modern: Getting to Know Your Rebellion Core Set Part 24

Prelude
Greeting to all and welcome back to another new post on Adapting to Modern where I look at how I crossed over from playing in Wild Battles till today focusing and getting more cards on Modern Battles, sharing with the community the struggles, the strategies and things I do to move towards playing in Modern. One third of the current season is over, how are you coping with it? Are you acing your opponents or still trying to figure out how to gather wins on a consistent basis? I am finding it hard to win often and being outsmarted by my opponents rather often.

Rebellion Core Set Cards

Similar to the previous post for this series, we will begin discussing card from the Rebellion Core Set. Using a similar method when I reviewed the Soul Bound reward cards, I will be discussing about the growth of the cards and will give a simple review to whether or not investing into them will level up your game play or not. And let's continue our review and look at another 2 common cards from death splinter in today's review.

Chaos Animator

The first death splinter common card that we will reviewing today will be Chaos Animator. At level 1, this card is hardly gonna be useful unless there are cards on the board that can give return damage in the form of thorns, magic reflect or return fire. However, as we move to level 3, the value of this card increases due to the Void that it gains which is more practical and useable in more ruleset and general gameplay. While this card does not have any attack, it will be commonly used with Moxian Rebel that will grant it magic attack or other cards that can weapon train this. This card is suitable for little league and scale rather decently in terms of stats. A slightly above average card but will need weapon training to unleash fullest potential.

Ahna-Chei Botanist

The next card we will look at will be Ahna-Chei Botanist. Another card that I feel have more usability considering there are many more range attacker and this will be able to return damage back to opponent. One can consider using this with Chaos Animator and Moxian Rebel to form a damage return trio with amplified damage. With higher level, the blindness will help improve its survivability otherwise, in terms of health stat, it is a little on the low side and could be killed off easily. Might end up being a single round card and the return damage only works for a round. A good consideration for little league and in worse case, can also be considered for a meat shield if you already filled up your lineup but need something to absorb some impact and give maybe some value if a range attack lands on it. Otherwise, unless absolutely necessary, deployment of this card will be based on need.

Assessment
2 common cards that are being reviewed today of both are generally ok and relatively low mana cost and suitable for little league. Both do not have any attack and will need some kind of weapons training to give them more value. By themselves without weapons training, likely will just be a meat shield and do return fire/amplify existing return damage abilities. Good as utility for both but no need to force them into lineup.

Rating wise, Chaos Animator would be getting a rating of 2.8/5 from me. Not too bad especially with void during level up but because it needs weapon train for better value, it makes it hard for me to give a good score because it is highly dependent on others especially for the return damage. For Ahna-Chei Botanist, this card will also get a rating of 2.8/5. Similar assessment, not fantastic especially with the need of weapons training. Will be good if we expecting more range attackers but need to find way to keep it alive for maximum effect.

My recommendation will be to get Chaos Animator to at least level 3 for the void and Level 4 as well for Ahna-Chei Botanist as it will gain blind to improve its own survivability and help your team dodge more attacks. Personally, I think these will just be utility cards in collection, will not make super big impact in the lineup and most likely be used when the ruleset favours them.

Wrap Up
Rebellion do really have good cards that are available and with Conclave Arcana in the midst of it all, synergies built amongst them will yield alot of advantage in the battlefield. The modern gameplay is evolving constantly with new ways to play considering the bloodline combinations. I like how things are moving through on the set releases and certainly hope to be able to learn more about the cards and better my gameplay on the battlefield.
