Adapting to Modern: Getting to Know Your Rebellion Core Set Part 2

Prelude
Welcome back to another new post on Adapting to Modern where I look at how I crossed over from playing in Wild Battles till today focusing and getting more cards on Modern Battles, sharing with the community the struggles, the strategies and things I do to move towards playing in Modern. With the wrapping up of the Soul Bound Reward cards from Rebellion set and due to Rebellion will be the more established set when a new card set release into the modern group, there is still a need to have a good base of Rebellion core set cards. So with this, I will embark on reviewing 2 cards per week from the Rebellion Core set to discuss if you should be considering getting some of the cards to adapt to modern gameplay when the new set comes and Chaos Legion phases out.

Rebellion Core Set Cards

Similar to last post, we will begin discussing card from the Rebellion Core Set. Using a similar method when I reviewed the Soul Bound reward cards, I will be discussing about the growth of the cards and will give a simple review to whether or not investing into them will level up your game play or not. And let's start off with the first two cards in Rebellion Fire Splinter.

Kha'Zi Fire Mage

Another fire splinter common that we will review is the Kha'zi Fire Mage. Only at max level, then this card will get a boost in its magic attack. Stat line wise, not exactly fantastic and on growth also pretty much average. The only thing I am not exactly sure is that how much dodge it can get when reaching 4 or greater speed. This card qualifies for little league and if able to strike on those 1 health cards due to scatter shot, this will be an awesome bonus to this card. But otherwise, the magic damage is average and with scatter shot, there is also a luck factor involve. The only reason probably I will snap up a few more of this card will be that it is very suitable for Little League and Wands Out since there are not a lot of fire splinter magic attacker in modern. A generally average card which likely will not see much of it on the battle field when the HP cannot really out last as well at 4 or 5 HP.

Chaos Orc

With a good attack and decent attack stats with no melee alteration abilities such as sneak or opportunity. And with a good amount of stats in the other aspects, Chaos Orc can actually serve as a front tank that bites into those pesky tank walls with loads of armour and worse, being able repair. Since wild days, at lower level, we do not see many of such cards in the lineup and this is where a surprise can be pulled off. While most could think they have enough armour, but they didn't a piercing card is reading to pierce through that armour. While this card is decent, it not without its shortcomings. This card also do not have any abilities such as sneak or opportunity to allow it to bully from backline or even in the middle of the lineup. Will be more useful when there is opportunity or sneak enabled or even things like melee mayhem or even maneuver to allow it to smack from position 2. When this card levels up, it gains significant amount of stats to make it dangerous especially when trample is gained. Pierce and trample will be not easy to stop but we also need to be cautious how we put this card in the lineup. Generally, quite a decent card that will do very well at high level.

Assessment
As compared to the 2 cards that I've reviewed last week, the 2 cards today is a little on the weaker/less value for money side. While both are cheap and do have their own capability and utility in various rule set. To field this two card and getting big value from them is no easy task. Chaos Orc somehow does have more functions and definitely more sustained during battles. Kha'Zi Fire Mage biggest problem is its low health which makes it awkward whether to field it.

Rating wise for both the cards, I would say Kha'Zi Fire Mage would probably just deserve a slightly lower than passing grade of 2.2/5 while Chaos Orc should get something in the range of 2.8/5. These are two cards that I personally belongs to a category of good to have than must have and levelled up. I would say, we probably work on them later but prioritize other cards that are more worth levelling up.

Wrap Up
I have started looking into the Rebellion core set cards that we need to start building up to prepare for the new set that will be coming in when Chaos Legion gets rotated out. I do hope that with the new set launching, we can find back the vibrancy during the prime days where everyone was busy camping for cheap cards or scurrying through the rental market to get cheap rentals. Remember, should you be uncertain, there is training mode for you to test out and try before purchasing or renting.
