When I first started playing Splinterlands it was in the days of the Untamed cards. I quickly learned that the path to power at lower levels was a combination of the Scarred Llama Mage with Kron The Undying. It was a devastating combination at low mana levels! I still like to use the Llama in brawls but usually combined with Quora Towerhead, talk about a tough combination to beat with that bloodlust!
Recently I have started to dive in and play Frontier Mode which only allows the use of Foundations cards. These cards can initially be obtained by playing the Campaign Mode tutorial or by purchasing Foundations Packs, which I will discuss in the next section. There are certain cards in this collection that really are the path to power, one of which is definitely Mystic Scaleweaver. It's a water element legendary card that can be found in packs or as a reward card from gameplay. It's high health and magic attack make it a very useful card.
A couple days ago I decided to upgrade my Mystic Scaleweaver to level 2 which is a max level card in Foundations cards. Why did I do this? It increases the magic attack to a base level of 3 which is a powerful attack that cuts right through armor! You can see in the chart below the benefits of upgrading:

However, just having a level 2 Mystic Scaleweaver doesn't mean you can use it. Unless your archon Marlai Singariel is at level 3 you won't be able to take advantage of the upgrade. You can see in the chart below where I circled the legendary card level supported by the archon:

So my path to power in Frontier Mode has involved upgrading two cards, not only the legendary card but the archon as well. But the upgrade is well worth it, granting you a powerful 4 magic attack which is devastating during a battle. As an example I have chosen a battle in which I used the combo.
You can see the battle at this link.

This match was a 28 mana with the rulesets of Equalizer (all cards get equal health) and True Strike (Attacks always hit the target.) To get started I chose my archon as Marlai Singariel which is at level 3. Since it is a relatively low mana I chose my tank as level 2 Asel Alagosdil, followed by a level 2 Saltwater Mage, and finishing off with a level 2 Mystic Scaleweaver.
My opponent had me worried when I saw the same archon Marlai Singariel but at level 4. Higher level summoners can be dangerous! In the tank they also had a level 2 Asel Alagosdil, followed by a level 4 Spell Monger, next a level 2 Mystic Scaleweaver, and rounding out with a level 5 Kanaaq Miner. That last card had me a bit worried as it could do serious damage over multiple rounds.

By round 3 both of our tanks were gone.

In round 4 my Mystic Scaleweaver really showed it value, the Spell Monger was taken out with one shot of 4 damage magic!

Round 6 I had managed to kill off the opponents legendary card again with that 4 magic damage attack. However, throughout the match, once a round, my Mystic Scaleweaver was taking damage from the Miner.

It was close by round 6!

But in the end my Mystic Scaleweaver survived with one health point remaining. I was happy to have won this one, I knew it was going to be tough! But my leveled up legendary card in the end made all of the difference! Definitely a path to power!

Another great path to power is adding more cards to your collection. So I decided to go ahead and purchase five Foundations Packs to open for today's post. First to buy them you go to shop and choose packs as seen below.

I picked Foundations and five packs were purchased for just over a dime a piece.

To open multiple packs at the opening portal press the button I circled and you can open all the packs at once. Much easier than doing each separately!

And here we go:

First two packs were pretty good with an archon card in the first, but the second pack was great. I pulled two rare cards, an epic Wild Horse Tamer, and most importantly a legendary A'lan Musketeer. It's a nice neutral card that strikes twice, and leveled up the damage increases to two ranged damage. A nice pull!

The third pack wasn't great, but the fourth was nice. I pulled another life archon, an epic Ash Archer, and a gold foil Grand Consul Minion!

And last but not least I pulled a gold foil Sherringham Logger worth about $0.25! I also pulled a nice rare Time Bandit! On these five packs I really made a profit, if I were to sell the the gold Sherringham Logger and the legendary A'lan Musketeer they are worth far more than I paid to purchase the packs. Not a bad five pack purchase!
Opening pack is always a great way to increase your power and make winning matches much easier as you level up your cards. Plus it's a lot of fun seeing what pulls you get each time you open up another pack! And what's great about Foundation Packs is they sell relatively inexpensive at just over a dime a piece. You can't get a deal much better than that!

It's kind of exciting to see your renewed interest in the game. I am still tempering my expectations, but I am glad you are finding some enjoyment here.
I still think overall the game is in trouble long term unless they can pick up a bigger player base. Foundations is something you can play for free and earn reward cards that can be sold. It's a great idea on their part, but attracting new players into the play to earn arena right now is tough with crypto prices down.
Yeah, we need a nice pump and people throwing money at any stupid project that comes along!
