The Significance of Elanor Bravefoot

Splinterlands has released the first batch of the new promo cards that were commissioned by the DAO. It's called the Hall of Legends and it will span across five different phases.

I have a few problems with this new card sale event. First, the prices are too high. Even in the last Chaos Legion promo card, Zyriel, there are not that many card purchases recorded. This may be because of the bear market and the declining number of players in the game. But the team already have data regarding this and they should have priced these new promo cards a lot cheaper than $3 and $50. It seems to me that there are not enough whales left in the ecosystem so pricing these promos lower is necessary. Second, the new cards are not that powerful or meta-defining, in my opinion. For the pricepoint that is needed to max out these cards, you can already get older cards for a fraction of the cost, especially the Untamed and Chaos Legion staples.

CARD STATS AND ABILITIES

Now, let's talk about the stats and abilities of the cards themselves. Sanctus Vicar is probably the better and more useful of the two. He is a perfect mid-position support that can cleanse both the front and rear units. This would be a perfect ally for Iziar. Luckily, it's water and fire splinter so I can use Prunda Undervesch and the upcoming Elias Max Pruitt to play Sanctus Vicar alongside the Life splinter.

For Elanor Bravefoot, I don't know how useable she is in actual battles. The weary ability is such a radical detriment that I don't know if it's worth it to play her because of the risks. She may be a staple in low mana matches but I can't see myself using her outside of that scenario.

So what's Elanor Bravefoot's significance to the game if I think she is not that good of a card? It's the new ability, Blasphemy of Uul. Blasphemy of Uul reads: "Permanently gain +1 ranged power for each allied card named Fiend." This is important because it is the first ability in Splinterlands that has specific conditions and targets specific cards. To me, this opens up the possibilities of new and more complex abilities in the future. This can further define cards closer to their own personality and lore. It also takes the gameplay to a higher level of depth probably closer to Hearthstone and Magic: The Gathering. It kind of makes me excited and hopeful for the future despite the bearish sentiments in the game.
