Smash n' Bash with Taye Taye

A couple weeks ago, I was greeted with a hilarious X post from

I thought to myself there's no way Splinterlands would do this. But upon taking a closer look, Taye Loreswift was a truly legit card for Conclave Arcana. But make no mistake, this card is not just about the memes, in my opinion. It truly has in-game functionalities worthy of the legendary category. Let's take a look.

Taye Loreswift Stats and Abilities

I especially take a liking to cards with low mana cost. Taye stands out among these types as having so much value compared to cost. First she has 3 melee damage, which is practically 4 when you unlock the Inspiration ability. Her speed and health are also good and within the expected range for a three-mana monster. But she also gets an additional one point of armor. That goes a long way in absorbing one attack from a sneak monster or a thorn reflect.

As for her abilities, it encourages a melee centered strategy. Having Inspiration unlockable at just level two, you can easily add in more Sneak and Opportunity based monsters for the lineup. The Snare could also increase the hit rate of her attacks on flying opponents. Finally, the Piercing ability will makes sure that each damage is efficiently inflicted.

Having said that, because Taye Loreswift has low health, she is prone to lethal damage early on the game when she is positioned in the second spot. I would have liked better if she had Sneak or Opportunity instead. She can also be swept away by blast attacks, earthquake, poison, and the likes. Having Holy Shield instead of armor would have been better. But that's just me nitpicking as it would have made her too overpowered considering the mana cost.

Partnered with Leolin Sifu

As for ideal monsters to team Taye Loreswift with, many Chaos Legion cards would benefit from the Inspiration skill like Uraeus and Stitch Leech. But with the upcoming Conclave Arcana, one card that stood out to me most is Leolin Sifu. Sifu is an epic card that focuses on big hit melee attack so having the melee power increased by multiple Inspiration skills would be beneficial for this strategy, in my opinion. Sifu also has tons of armor and health which makes her a strong tank candidate. Leolin Sifu is another interesting card from the new Conclave Arcana and I plan to highlight her in my next community engagement post.

Embracing the Meme Culture
I can still remember the time when Chaos Legion was released and the company has announced a partnership with Waka Flocka Flame, an American rapper. This led to the creation of a special summoner, Waka Spiritblade. And from my understanding, a significant part of the card sale went to the partner artist. And while it's safe to say it had been a successful event, I can only imagine the tedious legalities involved in such partnerships.

So the real significance for me of Taye Loreswift is the team's openness to embracing the meme culture. Taye is obviously a parody of the ever popular Taylor Swift and instead of going through the trouble of paying hefty sums of money for an official partnership, making a parody of her would still make an impact, and a hilarious one at that. I've seen this countless times throughout the blockchain ecosystem with Trump and Elon Musk being the most recently popular celebrities being parodied.

Taye Loreswift is also a very formidable card. I would require at least a level two copy in order to play in the bronze and silver leagues, but I would try for a max level if the secondary market prices permit. Forget about all others, Taye Loreswift is my chase card for Conclave Arcana. 😁
