Splinterlands: Playing in Bronze and Silver Leagues

bronze.jpg

Hey everyone, it's time again to make another @splinterlands blog post for this weeks Social Media Challenge, I was reading up on posts some newer players made, or older returned players (great by the way to see people returning to Praetoria again!) and I realized back when I started and I was watching video's about Splinterlands, 95% of the people were always using max level decks and it is such a different game at the top than in the lower leagues, not meaning it is less fun, it is just more complex with different dominant cards and a different meta play, and because I drained enough energy of my two own manual accounts I had some spare time to have fun with the two accounts my daughters once used, which I now use to support the guilds to fill frays in our brawls.

Those accounts need reward cards too to stay competitive so I usually play them a couple of days every season up to when they reach Gold 3 and then stop because the SPS staking requirements are way too high and rewards are suddenly halved. (This is a real issue for players with only one account by the way!)

But first let me tell you about the benefit of participating in the weekly Splinterlands Challenges yourself, every week there are three challenges, but you can only get up voted in two of them, this is a nice way to earn a little extra funds to invest in your account, just don't extract everything outside of Hive though or you might not get upvoted anymore.
This anti- extraction rule is a good thing in my opinion and not a big deal when you're just using the liquid (HBD) rewards to swap to DEC and invest in your account and let the staked Hive Power just be staked and see your account grow, this way you can start up voting people yourself too with a couple of cents per vote.

This weeks Social Media Challenge is the same as last weeks:

🔥 Share Your Most Remarkable Splinterlands Moments: Do you possess a battle of epic proportions that deserves to be seen by all? Have you crafted something extraordinary within the Splinterlands realm? Maybe you've got profound thoughts, insights, or strategies related to stats, cards, abilities, or gameplay that are waiting to be shared? Modern League changes

So, I've talked about this before but maybe some have missed this, a new set called Conclave Arcana is planned to be launched in May this year, with its launch it will push the Chaos Legion set out of Modern League, meaning you can only use this set in Wild League and in certain tournaments and brawl frays.
Do to overprinting, Chaos Legion is the cheapest set ever created within the game, this has its perks because it's very cheap to play in Diamond League, but it's not how the game is intended because most players should be in the lower leagues, including myself!

I have made a dedicated post about this topic a couple of weeks ago if you like to learn more about this topic, you can read it here.

For me, this means going from two manual accounts playing in Modern Gold and Diamond to only one account playing in Silver (and maybe low Gold if I'm good enough with my Silver cards).

image.png

Of course I'm playing in the high leagues for as long as I can until the very last day before Conclave Arcana is being released because the rewards in the higher leagues are very good (and I'm not even a top player).

To prepare for the Modern rotation, I have already made a Rebellion Silver deck but it's kind of a waste not to use it for 6 months so I delegated my Rebellion summoners to my two alt accounts @stella16 and @mightyluna (I didn't made these names obviously 😂)

Rebellion

For the old or new players playing in Bronze and Silver at the moment I want to show you why you shouldn't sleep on the Rebellion summoners because they are really awesome and a lot of fun to play, with the Rebellion set, two new kind of summoners were created: Tactics summoners and Dual Splinter summoners, both have their own perks, for example being able to choose the cards from two splinters can be really advantageous when you have rulesets that limit the cards available to you and with tactics you can alter your strategy when you see the enemy team, I will show you how this works later in this post.

image.png

The rewards in Silver were pretty nice, even though I am only delegating 1500 SPS to this account but my win streak bonus was at the max here, for some reason on this account I was facing 90% liquidity bots that were no match against my Rebellion summoners Risqruel Drath and Elias Max Pruitt, but still in half of my battles I used Chaos Legion summoners for the lower mana fights.

So, in one push I went from Bronze in to Gold 3, and then put 1 card teams in two battles to get down to Silver 3 again, this way I could get as many league promotion rewards as possible, I even made it up to the leaderboard for now, but this will probably change since I won't play this account until next season. 😆

Still, not counting the two losses I intentionally had, winning 33 battles out of 37 is pretty strong 😇 but I have to admit this is because at the time I was playing (morning in Europe for me) not many players were online and I faced mainly the liquidity bots splinterlands runs, these bots kick my ass in Gold on my own account all the time but I guess in Silver they are set to be less strong.

Battles!

So for this post I want to show you two battles using tactics summoners, there are more summoners with their own strenghts but I don't own all of them and more than two will be too much for this post anyway.

I delegated Risqruel Drath and Elias Max Pruitt to @stella16, Risq is nice but it's only cool for certain rulesets like Earthquake and battles where ranged units are important such as Keep Your Distance, Elias however is a lot more versatile and I want to show you how strong he is using a tactic I like to use with a monster with the flank ability in the first position.
Flank gives the monster behind this unit the reach ability so it is protected from harm in the first part of the battle, this is perfect for Elias to hit like a truck with the armored strike ability where monsters attack with their armor.

image.png

This battle was also against a liquidity bot but it had some really nice cards like Chaos Battle Mage and Dragon Egg Forager. Elias is level 2 but most of the monsters I play on this account are pretty low level as you can see.

The cool thing about the Rebellion Legendary summoners is they give boosts to the entire team, for Elias that is +1 melee damage and +1 armor for the entire team, on top of that I can choose before every battle after I have seen the enemy team whether I will use to give one monster the armored strike and piercing ability or to give one monster the repair and cleanse ability, in 90% of the battles I go for the first option because it's really really strong, as you will see.

image.png

So after seeing the enemy team, I went for my planned strategy and gave my Imperial Knight the armored strike and piercing ability, meaning he will first hit with 3 melee damage with his normal attack and right after that he will strike again with his armor, and because he has 7 armor at this moment he will do 7 damage, so that's 10 damage in 1 round! 😋
I put him behind a unit with flank so he's safe and his armor won't go down in the first rounds of the battle.

image.png

Later in the fight my Knight got to the first position and some of it's armor was damaged, five armor was left so he was still hitting for a total of 8 damage every round, in top leagues that's nothing new but it's really nice in the lower leagues!

You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.

Underboss Fabino

In the second battle I want to show you for this post I'm using Underboss Fabino, this is also a tactics summoner but he's not legendary so it can only summon one splinter: Earth.

With this summoner, after seeing your team you have the option to give +2 melee attack to TWO of your units, or to poison one monster on the enemy side (yes you can also poison your own units but why should you use that 😄)

image.png

The funny thing is, I planned my team to give +2 melee damage to my first and second unit but here is the strength in tactics, seeing my opponent using a strong Gladiator card with the bloodlust ability, I adapted and choose to poison it, now I'm sure my opponent didn't like that because he actually had a pretty solid strategy, using a unit with taunt to take all the damage and let his gladiator kill my team and gear up its Blood Lust, thanks to Fabino I was able to throw a wrench in his plans!

image.png

So the Gladiator died because of the poison while the unit with taunt was still there, but doing only 1 damage it wasn't very dangerous, now my team could finish the rest without any danger and change the game from a loss to a win for me! 😃

You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.

Conclusion

As you can see, compared to the Chaos Legion summoners, they have an advantage and are a lot of fun to play, I'm really excited what the new modern league is going to look like because when Conclave Arcana launches, overnight 90% of the players currently playing in modern league won't be able to play anymore, imagine what that is going to do with the SPS reward pool that's now being divided between players have have Rebellion and Conclave Arcana cards!

Don't sleep on this, prepare for it if you like the game. 😉

So question, what is the SPS Reward Pool? Is that the SPS that you get after winning battles and if so how does that work out because say Day 1 how does Splinterlands know only 10% are playing and give the rest of us more per battle?

Sorry if its a stupid question, I am not just not understanding this morning before I had my coffee lol

0E-8 BEE

No man there are no stupid questions, I'm no expert on this either but out the top of my head, every day there is a certain amount of sps available to be earned, we all take a small bite of it with every win but all active players in modern league share the pool, meaning with less active players, rewards will probably go up (a lot) until others realise these big rewards and start buying or renting modern decks to become active in modern again to take advantage of this, that's why preparation is nice and have a competitive rebellion deck ready or go heavy on the new set when it's available

okay sweet, thanks!

The one thing I noticed is that the official documentation / whitepaper for Splinterlands is very lacking (or I am just blind and can't find the answers I want). For instance I had to find the original Proposal post from Splinterlands on HIVE to track down the new set pack details and such. It was not on their Whitepaper or their FAQ section.
It's kind of annoying because there is soo much info and detail behind the scenes and its so hard to find.
