Hey everyone, and welcome back to another Splinterlands Blog post from me, it's a Saturday early morning now and what better way to start than with playing Splinterlands and make a post for it to further fund my account with!?
And.. to be honest I kinda got my ass kicked in Diamond 3 so I thought it would be a good moment to pause ranked battles for a while and start on making my second challenge post for this week! π
Last Tuesday, a big update from the Splinterlands team went live, containing the SPS Validators finally going live and the Team Creation screen overhaul, what was a shock for experienced players for sure, but it surely looks good and it just takes a while to get used to the new layout, for these two changes, I made a post earlier this week but I left out one other important update, and it wasn't even intentional, I just didn't want to make such a big post people stop reading half way and well... the topic that I left out was picked well because it's this weeks topic for the Community Engagement Challenge, this was just blind luck because I didn't knew what this challenge was going to be about when I made my last post... π
This weeks challenge:
Challenge Theme: Custom Sets
Custom Sets provide greater flexibility in deck management, making it easier to switch between strategies, rent out optimized collections, and prepare for future game modes. This week, we invite you to write support articles explaining how to use this feature effectively and why itβs a game-changer for the community.
To find out how you can participate in the challenge yourself, check out the Splinterlands post here.
For new players and people renting out their cards this is a very nice quality of life update, from the new players side this saves a lot of time not needing to single out every card they need to rent, one by one, which is also pretty impossible for inexperienced players to decide and know what cards they would need, so it's better to rent sets with just one click!
From the existing players side, renting out their cards this saves a lot of fees because instead of listing every single card and paying 1 DEC listing fee for every card we can now make a set and list the complete set for 1 DEC!
So, in the top left of your screen you can see all menu options with even more options in drop down menu's. Select 'ITEMS' and then 'CARD SETS'.
This brings us to a new screen which is by default on the 'create' setting, we can also go to the 'RENT' part of the sets by clicking on the appropriate tab with the same name to see what sets are available to be rented, at the moment there are only Chaos Legion sets to be rented and no Riftwatchers or Rebellion sets, because these sets are far more expensive, so there are far less cards available out there and the cards that do exist or used by the owners I think. π
These are all Bronze level cards, I think this is a good starting point for new players to start learning the game and ease in to all the abilities and rule sets out there, learning these things just takes time.
We can already see the available Chaos Legion sets to rent are getting cheaper so players are undercutting each other to try and get their set rented out to get some value from these unused cards, which is a good thing for new players wanting to rent them of course. π
So, when we click on 'VIEW CARDS' on the cheapest available set from @thorlock, a new screen appears.
This gives a detailed view for all the cards included in the sets and their levels, this is a full set at max Bronze level and it will cost you a little over 2k DEC to rent it, at current DEC value that's $1.68 to be able to play for the next 22 days (the remainder of this season plus the next full season)
No, probably not to be fair, not if you're not here for the long run like most hardcore splinterlands players are, but it's a nice way to try out the game without much investment. This is a win on one of my alt account I sometimes play in Bronze:
It's in Bronze 1, earning 0.12 SPS per win and 133 glint. While this is not much it's a great first step to learn the game, start building your reward cards set, you can buy with the glint earned, and it's a game so having fun for three weeks for $1.68 isn't expensive I think.
That being said, if you have decided this game is something for you, you would be better of buying the cards yourself in my opinion, but as always, Do Your Own Research before investing in anything.
So, from the owners point of view I think most of us have unused Chaos Legion cards doing nothing, I have a bunch of them delegated to new players that joined my guild to help them get started without any cost but then still I have some cards just being lazy and not doing anything...
So, this time we go to the 'CREATE' tab, for this post I will be making my very first custom set, I haven't tried out this feature yet due to real life commitments last week. π
A new screen appears, with all cards available out there, first, I know I have unused Chaos Legion summoner so maybe I can make a little set for them to rent out as a group, one for every Splinter new players can use.
So I select with the filters what I want to see: Chaos Legion and Summoners.
I see all available summoners, note: also soulbound cards are displayed here but they can't be rented out when you haven't unlocked them.
When I select Tarsa I see my different cards available, the level of the card and when I have last played them, the level 6 I use myself in ranked play, the rest are unused at this point so I select one of the level 1 cards.
I selected one summoner for every splinter, went back to the top of the screen and clicked the 'CREATE' button, where I can give a name to my set, I just want to inform what's in this set so I named it 'Chaos Legion lvl 1 Summoners'.
I now have created my first set, containing 6 summoners but it's not listed to be rented out yet, so I click on the 'LIST' icon where I can set the price for only the minimum of 1 dec per card per day, and click 'LIST'.
So, when I got back to the rental screen now, I can see my newly created set available to be rented! π
You can create sets yourself this way with all cards you have available, and when more people start doing this, it becomes easier for new players to get in to the game.
Well, this is it, it was fun discovering how this awesome new feature works together with you all making this post, I'm back to ranked battles so hopefully I will face less strong opponents now! π
If you haven't made an account already, please consider using my referral link to sign up, I'll happily send the amount I get for your signup back to you in DEC or SPS to help you start.
Also, when you require any help to get you started, let me know, I'm here to advice and guide new players and maybe I can help you with card delegations too!
Have a great day!

Nice post,
I like the new feature... wandering how it will look when there are many decks listed.
Can the player still find the good one, no filtering options there.
Thanks! Yes I agree, I think the team has some work left fine tuning this, it also makes no sense displaying the soulbound cards as available to find out when you want to rent out the set you can't... it doesn't display what soulbound cards are unlocked.
True, it seems a good starting point. if you look on the decks on peakmonsters that is really advantage. Disadvantage often not everything is rentable in the list of peakmonsters.
The SPL custom set is for the first and new players peakmonsters if you are more experienced imho.
Thanks for sharing! - @azircon
