Hey everyone and welcome back to my Splinterlands blog, I hope you all had a really nice Christmas! After all family obligations it's back to grinding Splinterlands again in all possible ways and that's exactly the topic for this week, the path to power... or in this case MY path to power!
So, this post is to participate in this weeks Community Engagement Challenge which almost always has a different topic, very cool!
Theme: Paths to Power
Every champion in Splinterlands forges their strength in a different way. Some dominate through clever strategy, others through long-term collection building, and many through dedication to learning the game’s ever-evolving mechanics. This week’s Community Engagement Challenge invites you to explore the path you take to grow stronger in the Splinterlands ecosystem.
To find out how you can participate in this challenge yourself, check out the official Splinterlands post here.

So, my path in Splinterlands has definitely been an evolving one, it started as just a game I played among other games, with them dying and me losing money on it, some just became boring over time or I didn't like how they changed over time Splinterlands has become the only game I am still playing just because I was done with learning other games to find out they would eventually become one of the reasons I've stopped playing my other games in the first place and with 95% of the new Web 3 games out there, although some had REALLY cool ideas like ChronoForge being something like World of Warcraft but in Web 3 but in hindsight I'm glad I didn't put any time and money in it because again... it died.
When I started playing Splinterlands in 2021, it was completely different and I remember I was thinking 'why would I ever need to upgrade my cards, I'm fine playing in Bronze!' but as time passes I learned the value of stronger cards anyway and this is the first card EVER I leveled up and I still own it of course.

Strange choice because it only gets the cripple ability which isn't very useful at lower levels but let's just say I still needed to learn a lot! 😄

My path to power is definitely a long term plan, over the years I've learned that card sets come and go and with the way the Modern League is as it is cards lose value when they get older until they can no longer be used in the Modern League.
So hopefully one day there will be something like a human only Wild mode because it's still a lot of fun using my older cards and the way it is now, I'm only playing them twice a week in my guild brawls.
With so many awesome updates in 2025 the game is becoming like many of us has always thought and trusted it would become like this in the future and although the asset prices doesn't reflect this (yet) the plans and actions from the team are great with many more cool things to come.
In the last 6 months I've changed from building my Modern deck in to acquiring as much SPS as I can because I think this is the real bottleneck for players wanting to earn and with the current value pretty far below 1 cents per shard these are great times to stock up more and growing my stake over time.
With making posts like these and also about my other hobby, mountain biking (or cycling in general) I am using the earnings to swap the Hive Backed Dollars I receive in to more SPS every week, in fact I have just received some more so let's swap some more for the sake of this post. 😁

It's all small amount of only a couple of dollars each but many drops make a shower and will add up over time, currently I am closing up on 190k total across my accounts, with the goal of owning at least 250k by the end of next year.
Since April 2023 the government put deposit money on cans and bottles in my country but many (young) people still just throw them away, polluting the environment.
But because of the deposit money people (like me) are now picking these up again, earning a couple of cents each for themselves while also cleaning the neighborhood.
In my daily working life driving around the country, on my walks and on my mountain bike rides I cover quite some distance every month and where I can I stop to collect the discarded cans and bottles, doing this I'm collecting somewhere around €10 I'm buying more SPS with, for every €10 it's about 1600 SPS at current price.

The other aspect of my long term plans is Land, I own 15 plots in total across two accounts but I still need to work on bringing everything online and get more grain plots on my second account in some way.
Land feels like a money black hole so it's a slow build where I will just out my monthly fun money in to but I keep postponing this because it's a tedious task to bring FIAT money in to Hive from Europe when you don't want to pay >10% in fees.
In fact later today I still need to bring in some new funds to get more land workers and staked DEC, again with the low price of DEC this is a good time to do this to prepare for the future.

So, my long term plans on the 'known' parts on the game, being land that will get more important when it gets more integrated in to the game and SPS because all players need it to earn here is my focus.
