Collateral Damage requires another way of thinking...

So, the Collateral Damage rule set in which every monster receives the Reckless ability, doing 1 damage to adjacent units on a successful attack is, or rather WAS the most challenging rule set by far until I realized you can't use the same rules with this rule set when building your teams, rather that trying to kill your opponent's team before they kill yours, it's actually better to watch them kill their selves! 😁

One card in special is perfect for this because it already starts with a high amount of HP plus is has the Scavenge ability at level 2, it's Lord Thanalor.

Currently this card isn't cheap at $12 for a level 2 but I deem this card to be 'need to have' when you want to be competitive in the leader boards, and I'm not even aiming for the top spots - I am perfectly fine to be anywhere in the top 50. 😌

Well... talking is nice but of course you all want to see an example of what I mean, don't you?

In reckless battles, there are some things I want to do when building my team:

  • Include high HP and high attack monsters, so every hit does more damage to the other team than my own.
  • Include Scavenge
  • Include monsters that can't attack from their current position, or use monsters that don't have an attack in the first place.

Looking at the team I made for this battle, I used Skrag to poison the enemy on top of the reckless damage to help them to kill their own team. 😇
The Saltwraith Bulkhead can't attack from the second position but does have a high HP number for only 7 mana.
Venka does 4 damage and although it doesn't have a lot of HP, positioning it between two units that can't attack, it won't receive damage until the adjacent units die.
Lord Thanalor is in the back to scavenge up HP from dying monsters so it can simply outlast the other team.

The battle was against a much higher level opponent and it didn't go perfectly as planned, two opportunity monsters killed my Venka way too soon, but in the middle of round 2, the enemy team did a good job in killing their own team faster than my team so it turned out to be a waiting game and let time, or rather rounds - work for me.

Even with the Triage my opponent used, it wasn't enough and the wildcard Olivia was too late in stealing the Scavenge and Healing abilities. Olivia IS great if she's allowed to survive long battles, she can get really dangerous.

Not this time Olivia... my team did too much damage to out heal this.

A nice and easy victory by being passive instead of aggressive. 🙂
