Splinterlands - Learning about managing Mana cost in Chapter-9, Book-1

Greetings to all the readers here

I am back again, this time a little sooner, with the Splinterlands blog. First of all, I went to the campaign mode to see how many more chapters are left in BOOK 1.

You can see in the screenshot below that there are still around 7 chapters left to be completed. At first, I thought I was going to complete 3 chapters, but when I started the 9th chapter named Mana, I realized it was not going to be as easy as the previous ones, and I would need to give more time to understand what they were trying to teach.

Chapter 9 Mana, is actually about the mana cost. I did not know about the mana thing before, but the number that comes on the top left side of an Archon or monster is the mana cost they take when you add them to the battle. In the beginning, when we used to fight in battles, the mana cost was 99, so there were no issues in taking any Archon or monsters because there was no limit. But now, we are given a limit with the mana cost, and we have to build our team based on that limit.

There, Professor Thalos Graystone told us that this is our training, and that is why there is no timer. Otherwise, in real battles, there is a timer within which we have to start the battle by selecting our team based on the mana cost. The data shown below also tells us that we can check the opponent’s history and the matches they played recently. That is a plus point because it helps us understand what kind of team we should take into battle based on the opponent’s past games.

So, below you can see that my battle rules are standard, and the mana cost is 20. My opponent is coming with Water category cards, so let’s see what we are going to take into the battle.

By default, when I proceeded to the battle, they gave me this Archon named Incessant Sage, which comes from the Neutral category, if I am not wrong, as I cannot see any sign of another category here. So maybe it is a card from the Neutral category, and the Archon is what you see below.

Now, below you can see the number of cards we have that we can take to the battle. For now, we are left with 14 mana cost because our Archon already took 6 mana cost, so 14 mana cost is what we have to utilize now. There are 5 cards, and I think I am going to take the first 2 in the battle because the second card here has the Sneak ability. So it will still attack the last card of my opponent’s team and eliminate it.

In the screenshot below, you can see the battle screen, and I was really scared because the battle was intense and both teams performed really well, but I was the winner. At the end of the battle, my only monster left was the one with the Sneak ability, and it was left with only one health, and luckily I won.

Below are the rewards that we earned from winning this chapter. There were 7 different rewards given to us, which is really interesting. I am going to look at them later, but for now, I think I have learned how to manage mana cost and take cards to the battle accordingly.

That is a good thing and if any expert player here wants to give me some lessons about mana cost, they can write it in the comments.

Thank you.
