I was strolling through the card market in search of card deals recently and noticed present prices of modern set - Rebellion prices have pretty much fallen from all time highs. Considering that the set will be the next to move into wild there is less willingness for its command in prices.

In fact where it stands now is a max level regular set would be under $4600. One set before Rebellion in Chaos the set value is under $400.

While before that in Untamed its closer to $2,000.

Then there are legacy sets in alpha and beta which currently have not full set price obtainable. This is because majority of cards in these sets are not available on the open market to track. In short prices for these as a set are high but not necessarily accurate as demand may not be there.
On high level it appears there is no trend as prices of sets are scattered as some older sets are higher while newer sets lower, but from a supply and demand standpoint it is clear why most older sets hold up in value. Those sets are limited in card supply. With the different mechanics introduced to burn older cards for newer the supply will only continue to dwindle.
One thing is clear is that overall trend of card sets continues to be in a consistent down trend from its peak. It is more often than not the newest set arrives and prices soar for a few months but then gradually falls in value and continues to fall over the years.
I for one can attest to this as I bought in on some of the promos and building a full Chaos regular max level set. I have seen significant price reduction in multiple cards, but on the bright side at least they are still very liquid. Markets are active and if sellers put out an attractive price for any Splinterlands card it will definitely be bought. The demand is there but hoping in the future prices can also rise.
Thanks for reading this post!
I think it was bound to be like that. Older cards aren't as useful because they are limited in the places you can use them. It's only limited because of the rarity as it is considered out of print. I hope prices increase as well, but that might require more users to join in.
