Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome back to my blog!
I just unlocked Gold I League in Modern before season ends in five days. It has a definite advantage since it increases the SPS rewards earned per win. I was also rewarded with advancement chests that contained cards, among others. Advancing in leagues as you win more battles is part of the fun I find in playing Splinterlands. Soon this feature will be removed as brackets will be fixed in Modern mode. I hope the bracket system will have benefits that compensate the loss of advancement reward chests.

I got mostly common cards but there was one rare card as well. I used legendary potions but didn't get any epics or legendaries. There were also potions, merits and energy. I like the cards best especially if I can get legendary cards but this time the ones I got were mostly common cards.
I have several fun battles on the way to reaching Gold I but I will feature one battle I liked most.
What I liked in this battle was that it showed how a cheap team like mine can stand toe to toe against a super team led by a legendary archon, Elias Max Pruitt and had two legendary units in the team.

The ruleset was Shades of Grey or only neutral units are allowed. I have built a decent neutral deck composed of a good tank and damage dealers. Here I just used a Frontier archon which is generally weaker than Modern archons. My team was composed of the following units.
Doomshield Warden is a strong offensive tank. He deals four melee damage and has great defensive stats. He has the Flank ability that allows another melee tank to attack from second position.
One mana Halfling Refugee was my second tank and can attack from second position because he was given the Reach ability.
My third tank, Ulundin Overseer has beefy defense. He has no attack but was granted two magic damage because of Shiraza's Weapons Training ability.
The great thing about Shiraza is her Weapons Training ability that grants magic attack to no attack units like Ulundin Overseer. A defensive unit suddenly has an offensive threat.
One of my best magic damage dealers. He deals three magic damage and can be raised to four by the archon.
A legendary reward card, Kaori Matsune deals two magic damage for only five mana. Also, he's one of my neutral cards so he's great in this ruleset.
The enemy had Elias Max Pruitt leading his team. He grants additional melee attack and armor to all units and grants the Armored Strike and Piercing ability to one chosen unit. In this battle, he gave it to Ironwing Juggernaut. He had legendary melee cards Mantaroth and Venka the Vile in his team. They have a good synergy with Elias because of his buff to melee units. The key to winning this battle was magic. I had strong magic attackers that his units cannot block no matter how strong they were. Another plus on my side was having Ulundin Overseer and Shiraza combo. Ulundin Overseer is a beefy tank that was granted magic attack by Shiraza. He stood as my third tank while my magic damage dealers decimated the enemy from the back. This was how I won against a strong team.

Start your Splinterlands adventure today with my referral. You can play the game for free in the Frontier Mode or take your game to the next level by purchasing a spellbook. Buying a spellbook allows you to earn SPS tokens and use the market to sell in game assets. Also, we will both get 500 Credits which can be used top purchase cards once you buy a spellbook.
Nice, congrats on the level up! I like that lineup you were using, I've never used Shiraza, but I may be getting a new toy now thanks to you! Thanks for the great idea!
