Thanalorian Scion: Key Card in Wands Out Ruleset!

Hello Splinterlands summoners and welcome back to my blog!

The Wands Out ruleset is a battle that allows only magic units. In this type of battle, there's very little choice when it comes to the first position. Which unit can take the role of a tank in battles between mages? In this post, we'll take a look at a unit best to take on this role: the Thanalorian Scion.

Lore

Elandrial is the sole heir of the noble House of Morth'lana. She was trained in the arts of magic from an early age and has become a powerful sorceress. She recognizes the growing danger of the dragons of Mount Redwyrm and the expanding influence of the Chaos Empire over Thanaloria. While the kingdom’s leadership chooses isolation, Elandrial urges unity, pushing for alliances and support for neighboring lands under threat. Despite her foresight and determination, her warnings and counsel continue to be ignored.

Stats and Abilities

The Thanalorian Scion is a five mana, epic, water card from the Rebellion set. At maxed levels, she deals three magic damage and only has one speed. She only has one health but her armor is high at eleven. She bosts of three abilities. Corrosive Ward decreases the armor of her melee attackers while True Strike means her attacks will not miss even if she's slow. Her best ability is Void Armor, allowing her to use her armor to defend against magic attacks which usually ignores armor.

Role in Battle

Due to her Void Armor ability, her best role in battle is to take the tank position in Wands Out battles. Teams using her as a tank has a high win rate although counters to her ability has already been introduced in the latest card sets. She can also be a tank in regular battles due to her thick armor. She decreases the armor of melee attackers with her Corrosive Ward ability.

Featured Battle

The battle occurred in the high level Gold League where player Laaca had the Water team and Thanalorian Scion as the tank. His other damage dealers were not doing much damage like Abyssal Elemental and Anasth Soothsayer who only deal one magic damage. He did have multi attack units like Conjurer's Hubris and Gramel the Hunger in his team. His enemy had a max level archon and had a high health tank, the legendary Zebajin. His second tank, Malara Gainek is no less tough with ten health, Void and Silence abilities.

The Thanalorian Scion held the frontline long enough for the rest of her team to do damage to the enemy. The Abyssal Elemental was excellent as a second tank with its Resurgence ability and supported by a healer. Once the enemy's dual tanks were eliminated, victory was earned by Laaca's team.

How to Counter the Thanalorian Blade

Abilities that degrade armor like Shatter are strong counters against the Thanalorian Blade. For me, I counter teams with Thanalorian Blade using my Earth elf team. The Thanalorian Blades one health means she's susceptible to the elves's Bloodline Dominion ability, Execute. The double attack she receives from elves means that her thick armor won't last long in the fight.

Here's a sample of such battle. I had two elves in my team that attacked the enemy's Thanalorian Blade twice in each round.
