Hello Splinterlands summoners! We just concluded another season in Splinterlands. I'll be posting about my progress this season and sharing some of my favorite battles.

Season End Rank

I finished the season at Gold II. I could probably done much better but there were losses against much stronger opponents towards the end of the season. I really need to level up my archons to have a better chance of ranking higher. However, with Hive price on the low side these days I'm not converting Hive to DEC any time soon.

Legendary Cards

I earned over one hundred thousand Glints this season. I was thinking of buying Major Chests but decided to go for the sure thing and bought three legendary chests instead. I was hoping to get a copy of legendary Death card, Grifzli who is still missing from my deck but I still can't get him. I got these instead.

I was able to level up a couple of legendary cards.

Emberguard was upgraded to level two. He gained no stats but added the Deflect ability to his kit. Warborn Chieftain on the other hand was upgraded to level three. He also did not gain any stats but got his fourth ability, Demoralize.

Yaba's Pickle

Yaba's Pickle was released during the season. It's a promo card in honor of the game's co-founder @yabamatt. I like this Water splinter card that I plan to use as a tank in low mana battles. It will also be great to combo with units with Weapons Training ability. I even made an AI version of this card, emphasizing it being a Water card.

I prepared for the Yaba's Pickle release and made sure that I have enough SPS to qualify to buy at least fourteen copies. I was able to buy fifteen copies and got two gold foil cards.

Featured Battles

Battle 1 - A Good Combo Can Win Against a Stronger Foe

In this battle, I was against a stronger opponent. He has a level four archon against my level two. My opponent's units are also at a higher level than mine. My team was composed of Cavewise Wayfinder and Vicious Giraffe combo. I explained the merits of this combo in my previous posts. This is a low mana battle so the third member of the combo, Portly Cannoneer was not included. Instead, I had the Kha'zi Conjurer at the rear with Halfling Refugee taking in the burning damage.

Even though my opponent has the higher level cards, my team has the better synergy and higher damage potential. Once my opponent's tank was disposed, it was easy victory for my team.

Battle 2 - Fighting the Wayfinder/Giraffe Combo

In this battle, I'm up against the Cavewise Wayfinder and Vicious Giraffe combo. This is a team I would use myself. Another unit that's great for this combo is the Conclave Tracker which my opponent used. The Conclave Tracker has the Repair ability, aiding the Wayfinder stay longer in battle as she repairs the tank's armor.

I was able to counter this by fielding a magic team. My team's main damage dealer is the Night Reaper, dealing three magic damage. It uses a lot of mana of eleven so I had to use a low mana unit in the tank position. This is perfect for the Halfing Refugee who is a decent tank for only one mana. Making up the rest of my team, I had the Silverleaf Warlock who deals two magic damage while also giving my team a speed boost. I also had the Chaos Battle Mage and Meriput Slinger, both can deal three ranged damage.

The opponent easily disposed of my tank who has no armor. My team got back and also disposed two of my opponent's units. My opponent's attacks were coming from different directions. He has an Opportunity and Sneak attackers while my units attacks were all concentrated in the front. This made my attack more coordinated and disposed of my opponent quicker that he can kill my units.
