My favorite line from chapter 2 is:

"He was bald, not as tall as Drigg but stockier. His sigils were green threads, twisted into a mass of hide tassels that sprouted from wide shoulderpads. He wielded a massive club, a sheathed blade that was maybe a forearm’s length, and what looked like a mechanized device for firing thin, sharp shoots that he carried in a bundle on his hip".

“Obviously. That’s tight though,” said Dreff. He was right. The original plan was to plant the charges, blow the middle first, then the edges, with plenty of time in between to get back to the woods. It was likely that tampering with the bridge would set off alarms, but they figured they had had enough time before a witch could reach them.

Junelight spun to find herself staring straight down Bettine’s silver device. It ended in a little black hole. But her wisps were still with her, and when they floated around Bettine, there was no telling motion in her hand or fingers—assuming that one used their hands to operate it. It was more theatre.

Although there is certainly more to this chapter that I loved, the whole description of how Junelight's magic worked, how the wisps helped her predict attack movements, and the weird connection to the town - whether some life force connection or something deeper that we're going to learn more about in the future - was so cool! I love stuff like that! Great stuff, I'm glad I'm finally able to catch up. Life has been WILD lately. !PIZZA !WINE !HBIT !LUV !CTP
