Playing with AI: Hailuo x Splinterlands

I've been having fun with AI video recently, and just wanted to share some outputs animating original Splinterlands art.

I'm by no means an expert on AI video. In fact I'm a complete rookie and have no idea what I'm doing. The thing that made me want to try the service I used here was the concept of "image to video", where you can easily provide an image, alongside a brief prompt, and the tool will animate the video accordingly.

The tool I'm using is Hailuo AI, which you can find here: https://hailuoai.video/. There is currently a free version, and you also get unlimited access for the first 3 days.

Here's what it looks like:

Very simple prompt input box, a button on the bottom left if you want to add an image reference, and that's it.

It certainly has its limits, but it's one of those services where you can very quickly get some gratification by making something surprising with fairly little effort. The videos that get created so far are all 6 seconds long from what I can tell, so it's really more of a GIF generator IMO, but it's a lot of fun. I've seen on Twitter some people taking very famous photos and animating them, which is a cool use case.

Here I tried it with some Splinterlands cards. Let's have a look!

Here's Baron Fyatt "celebrating like it's 1999"...:

Then we've got EMP cheering as electricity flashes out of his chair:

Here's Cryptic, also dancing like it's 1999 ;)

I asked to get Tofu & company to dance, and I feel Hailou struggled a bit, but you'll notice it still detected the 3 separate cats in the frame which I think is amazing:

It struggled a lot with Almo, probably because of that "mist" behind him.

Hailou did a fantastic job with Lux:

Overall I'm quite impressed with what this tool can do. Is it mind-blowing? Not really, at least not in its current form. But does it strike the right balance between ease of effort and value of output? I think so.

Would be great to see more folks in the Splinterlands community using this and other AI tools to create eye-catching stuff we can post on social media!

Here are a few more random generations:

Yep, and this is the worse it'll ever be. The speed at which AI is improving is insane.
