Zaragoza se viste de Navidad // Zaragoza dresses up for Christmas

Hola querido hiver.

Como ya nos anuncian las flores que decoran la figura de la portada, Zaragoza se ha vestido de Navidad. En esta publicación daremos un paseo por su centro principal visitando lo más característico de estos días.

Tuve mala suerte y las luces del principal paseo de la ciudad, el Paseo de la Independencia, no estaban encendidas aún. De todos modos, encontré elementos en los característicos colores verde, rojo y blanco como el árbol de luces de led o esa parada de tranvía.

La plaza en la que se sitúa la Iglesia de Santa Engracia también tenía sus árboles adornados con guirnaldas de pequeñas bombillas. Aproveché la ausencia de más adornos del paseo para cazar árboles navideños para este otro post.

Hasta que llegué a la calle Alfonso I. ¡Esto sí, ya se huele el ambiente a Navidad!

Esta calle es la más señorial de la ciudad. Merece la pena elevar la mirada y admirar el estilo de principios de siglo que conservan las fachadas de los edificios. De normal es bonita, así que cuando le sumamos el extra de iluminación de estas fechas el resultado es una delicia.

Me atrevería a asegurar que es la calle más transitada de Zaragoza, ya que da paso a la imponente Plaza del Pilar. Este es el lugar donde los zaragozanos celebramos todos los eventos principales y la Navidad no iba a ser una excepción.

Nos vamos hacia la parte izquierda y encontramos casetas en las que se venden productos artesanales de todo tipo, desde ropa hasta jabones pasando por comida.

También hay atracciones que hacen las delicias de los niños y mayores, como la pista de hielo o los ponies ecológicos.

Pasamos la noria de madera que funicona con una manivela manual y rodeamos el Belén de Judea que ya recorrimos hace unos días.

Años atrás no ponían esas vallas y el nacimiento se podía ver desde afuera. Personalmente, me gusta más así porque cuando se hace el recorrido por dentro te permite estar más sumergido en el ambiente que recrea.

Pasamos de nuevo por la desembocadura de la calle Alfonso I y por delante de la entrada a la tierra de los sueños, que también te presenté la semana pasada en otra publicación.

En la parte derecha de la plaza el protagonista principal el el árbol de los deseos, cuyas tarjetas contienen los anhelos de quienes los dejan allí por escrito.

Frente al árbol de los deseos, la fachada del Ayuntamiento adornada con sus luces y las banderas protocolarias. Me llevé la sorpresa de que se podía entrar al vestíbulo, donde descansa un enorme buzón que está a disposición de todos los niños que quieran dejar allí su carta a los Reyes Magos. No hay peligro de que las roben, pues cuenta con unos vigilantes fieros y preparados para defenderlo, jeje.

Hice una última panorámica de la plaza desde ese otro ángulo y salí a esperar el autobús de vuelta a casa a la parada que está junto al río. Allí no esperaba ver más luces y, sin embargo, una segunda sorpresa me esperaba con el puente de Santiago iluminado. Con estas vistas, la espera se hizo más ligera.

As the flowers that decorate the figure on the front cover announce, Zaragoza has dressed up for Christmas. In this publication we will take a stroll through its main centre visiting the most characteristic of these days.

I was unlucky and the lights of the main promenade of the city, Paseo de la Independencia, were not switched on yet. Anyway, I found elements in the characteristic green, red and white colours like the tree with led lights or that tram stop.

The square where the Church of Santa Engracia is located also had its trees decorated with garlands of small light bulbs. I took advantage of the absence of more decorations on the promenade to hunt Christmas trees for this other post.

Until I got to Calle Alfonso I. Now I can smell the Christmas atmosphere!

This is the most stately street in the city. It is worth looking up and admiring the turn-of-the-century style of the façades of the buildings. Normally it is beautiful, so when we add the extra lighting at this time of year, the result is a delight.

I would venture to say that this is the busiest street in Zaragoza, as it leads to the imposing Plaza del Pilar. This is the place where we Zaragozans celebrate all the main events and Christmas was not going to be an exception.

We go to the left side and we find stalls selling all kinds of handmade products, from clothes to soaps and food.

There are also attractions that will delight children and adults alike, such as the ice rink or the ecological ponies.

We pass the wooden Ferris wheel that works with a hand crank and go round the Bethlehem of Judea, which we already visited a few days ago.

Years ago they didn't put up these fences and the nativity could be seen from outside. Personally, I like it better this way because when you do the tour from the inside it allows you to be more immersed in the atmosphere it recreates.

We pass again by the mouth of Alfonso I street and in front of the entrance to Dreamland, which I also presented to you last week in another publication.

On the right side of the square the main protagonist is the wishing tree, whose cards contain the wishes of those who leave them there in writing.

In front of the wishing tree, the façade of the Town Hall adorned with its lights and protocol flags. I was surprised to find that it was possible to enter the foyer, where there is a huge letter box available to all the children who wish to leave their letter to the Three Wise Men. There is no danger of them being stolen, as there are fierce guards ready to defend it, hehe.

I took a last panoramic view of the square from that other angle and went out to wait for the bus back home at the bus stop next to the river. There I didn't expect to see any more lights, but a second surprise awaited me with the illuminated bridge of Santiago. With these sights, the wait became lighter.
