Hola querido hiver.

Después de visitar el castillo y el aguallueve, todavía nos quedaba pendiente pasear por las calles de Anento, uno de los pueblos más bonitos de España.

No, no estoy siendo exagerada. Es oficial y esta señal lo acredita. Los pueblos más bonitos de España son una red de localidades que cumplen una serie de requisitos como poseer un interés histórico, cultural o paisajístico. Conseguir su sello no es fácil, y aquellos que lo obtienen lucen orgullosos una placa como esta en su acceso. Anento, el pueblo que hoy nos ocupa, es de los primeros que lo hicieron en Aragón.

En el caso de Anento, en realidad no es un pueblo con mucha historia o con un patrimonio que no podamos encontrar en otros lugares. Su gran mérito es que estaba en ruinas y despoblado hace unas décadas, desde que su último vecino emigró en 1976. Gracias al empeño de unos pocos impulsores se restauraron y mejoraron sus calles y casas hasta convertir la localidad en un destino turístico. Han sabido potenciar sus espacios singulares y reciben visitantes de todo el mundo.

Sin embargo, he de señalar que cuando estuve en la pasada primavera no había ni un establecimiento hostelero abierto a pesar de ser un viernes, antesala del fin de semana. Que no puedas tomarte un simple café o acceder a un baño público hizo que la experiencia resultase agridulce.

Todo el casco urbano está cerrado a la circulación de coches, por lo que se respira tranquilidad en todas las calles. Las construcciones imitan la arquitectura medieval, el pavimento empedrado y los adornos en madera o forja completan la estampa. Tampoco faltan referencias a su característico aguallueve o a sucesos históricos de la zona como la guerra de los Dos Pedros.

La iglesia está dedicada a San Blas con origen románico en el siglo XIII. Está incrustada entre casas, por lo que apenas se ve una parte de su fachada, el pórtico de acceso y la torre, que es la construcción más alta del pueblo y se ve desde la distancia. En su interior se conserva uno de los retablos góticos más importantes de Aragón, pero no entré a verlo porque había una visita guiada ya empezada.

Preferí seguir explorando las calles. Junto a la iglesia hay una confluencia de calles en la que destacan varias casas, que siguen ese estilo de imitación a las construcciones antiguas.

Pero también se han dejado a la vista algunos detalles sin restaurar, lo que nos permite imaginar cómo era su estado real antes de la remodelación del pueblo. Otro aspecto a destacar es la profusión de adornos vegetales por todas partes, que dan sensación de frescor y acogimiento entre tanta piedra.

Las calles te llevan hasta un amplio mirador que ofrece una panorámica de 360 grados, en la que tenemos al frente el verde valle y por detrás el tozal sobre el que se asienta su castillo. Es un punto ideal para sacar fotografías y para dar por terminado este paseo.

After visiting the castle and the Aguallueve, we still had to take a stroll through the streets of Anento, one of the prettiest villages in Spain.

No, I’m not exaggerating. It’s official, and this sign proves it. Spain’s most beautiful villages are a network of villages that meet a series of criteria, such as having historical, cultural or scenic interest. Earning this designation is no easy feat, and those that do are proud to display a plaque like this one at their entrance. Anento, the village we’re focusing on today, was one of the first in Aragón to achieve this.

In the case of Anento, it is not actually a village with a great deal of history or a heritage that cannot be found elsewhere. Its great merit lies in the fact that it lay in ruins and was deserted for several decades, ever since its last resident emigrated in 1976. Thanks to the determination of a handful of enthusiasts, its streets and houses were restored and improved, transforming the village into a tourist destination. They have successfully showcased its unique features and now welcome visitors from all over the world.

However, I must point out that when I was there last spring, not a single café or restaurant was open, despite it being a Friday, on the eve of the weekend. Not being able to have a simple cup of coffee or use a public toilet made for a bittersweet experience.

The entire town centre is closed to motor traffic, so there is a peaceful atmosphere in every street. The buildings are modelled on medieval architecture, whilst the cobbled pavements and wooden or wrought-iron decorations complete the picture. There are also plenty of references to its characteristic ‘aguallueve’ (rainwater spout) and to historical events in the area, such as the War of the Two Peters.

The church is dedicated to Saint Blaise and dates back to the 13th century, with Romanesque origins. It is nestled amongst houses, so only part of its façade is visible, along with the entrance porch and the tower, which is the tallest building in the village and can be seen from a distance. Inside, it houses one of the most important Gothic altarpieces in Aragon, but I didn’t go in to see it as a guided tour had already started.

I decided to carry on exploring the streets. Next to the church there is a junction where several houses stand out, built in a style that imitates older buildings.

However, some unrestored details have also been left visible, allowing us to imagine what the village actually looked like before the renovation. Another aspect worth noting is the abundance of plant life everywhere, which creates a sense of freshness and warmth amidst all the stone.

The streets lead you to a spacious viewpoint offering a 360-degree panoramic view, with the green valley stretching out before you and, behind it, the hilltop on which the castle stands. It is an ideal spot for taking photographs and for bringing this walk to a close.
