Last time I've posted about Project Voyager and how it is a campaign for the Craft World game. The campaign has apparentlyy ended and I'm now going to try out the Craft World game.
At a glance, I can tell that this is just a mining simulator game but with dinosaurs! So there is a linear progession with unlockable structures at different levels.
Initially, I have a rig that produces soil. After a certain number of harvest cycles, I level up and the next zone has a machine that produces mud.
What I dislike about this though is the tedious task of clicking. You'd have to click the play button for the rig to create resources. You'd also have to click the materials produced by the rigs in order to harvest them. It takes a few seconds for each cycle to complete in the lower levels.
In order to prevent unlimited farming, I guess the developers put up an energy mechanic. Each rig costs 1 energy to run a production cycle. As for me, I think it took one hour of playing before my energy ran out. And what I've noticed is that there's also an option to view ads to replenish it, similar to other web2 games on mobile. I don't know how sustainable it is for them to rely on this revenue model especially if there is a decline in the user base.
There is also a leaderboard where a cluster of players work together to complete certain structures in the game. And they are compensated with rewards depending on the amount of resources they contributed to the project.
You can also go premium by buying the battle pass which gives you token rewards for each level you obtain. From what I see, I blieve this is the only way for new players to get their hands on the Dyno Coins which makes the battle pass a bit mandatory for players that intend to earn from this game.
Overall, Craft World is a game that have very similar model to other mining simulator games in the past. And while I am not fully sold on the sustainability of their economy, the cute 16-bit graphics do have some charm to it. It's also very convenient to have access to it both in PC and mobile. I would still play it but I'm very hesitant to go on becoming a premium player.
