Backyard Bugs

A lot of the trees and plants are in our backyard are in bloom at the moment. It's not only a beautiful sight like the Golden rain and the Japanese Crabapple in the photo below. It also attracts a lot of insects to our garden.

Our Ceanothus is also doing well and has a beautiful purple colour. I've made a macro shot of it's flowers.

I've spotted the first ladybugs too. This one was sitting in the sun on a leaf of our plum tree. I was trying out my macro ring light as you can see on its shield. I didn't had to use it since she was in the sun already.

Another ladybug was posing on one of the branches I had cut off a while ago. I try to prevent the tree from growing in 'the wrong direction'.

In one of the other plants (I don't know which one it is, but it has nice white flowers at the moment) I spotted a small bumblebee. It's cool to see how they collect the nectar in the pouches on their legs. Unlike 'normal' bees bumblebees don't create honey from it, but keep it to consume it theirselves.

I really like their 'furry' bodies and they have beautiful wings as well.

This fly on other hand is quite ugly in my eyes. Also it's name; flesh fly sounds creepy.
7.jpg

I hadn't seen the following insect before in my backyard. It's an Ichneumon xanthorius, a species of wasp. It is quite smaller and thinner than the wasps that usually visit our backyard.
It also looked a bit less agressive.

I hope you liked my photos!

Absolutely incredible. I love all the pictures you took. They are bright and colourful. The fly as you said looks creepy but I love the lady bug picture. Never knew bumblebees eat nectar and not use to produce honey. I just learnt something new. Thanks.
