Hello, dear lovely creators, I hope you are all having a great week. Well, mine just got better as I just put in finishing touches on a beautiful, timeless brocade beauty. I'm still amazed at what I am able to create with my hands.

A friend of mine reached out to me early this week about her intended birthday tomorrow. I was perplexed to say the least, because I had totally forgotten, and she also forgot to remind me, why? I enquired, only for her to tell me how she just wanted this year's birthday to pass without anyone knowing because she hasn't been in the best of mind lately due to some life challenges, but thankfully, all of that heavy burden was taken off her this week, after she received a good news from her doctor, after trying to conceive for 6 years, my friend is finally going to be a mum. Yay!

Now, not only is she going to celebrate her birthday this year, she will celebrate it happily knowing her prayers has been answered, but the timing to make her a dress was so short, still I couldn't say no to her, "what do you want me to make", I asked her, "a mummy to be brocade dress" she said with a joyful heart, so today's post will be focused on how i made this beautiful mummy to be elegant brocade dress.

Brocade fabric is known to effortlessly elude sophistication, and making bubu dresses with it gives it that rich auty vibes, in this case, a happy mummy vibe, so without further ado, let's get right into the making process.

Materials Used

• Brocade fabric

• Milkado fabric

• Matching coloured thread.

Cutting And Sewing Process

• I started by drafting the back dress pattern on fold, using a cut-together sleeve pattern, also known as a kimono. I also shaped a cowl by the sides and straightened the dres from the knees down to the hemline.

• Using the back pattern, I cut out the front, extending about a 1.5-inch allowance at the front because the slit of the dress will be at the front part, so that makes the front pattern pieces two.

• I joined the front pattern pieces, leaving the front slit open.

• Next, I joined the front and back by the shoulder

• Note that the neckline of the dress is asymmetric

• Next, I joined one side of the bubu gown, and gathered the sleeve opening using an elastic band.

• I went further to trim out some excess sleeve from the other side, then sewed the sides and folded the sleeve opening.

• Finally, I measured around the neckline, which gave me about 17 inches. Using the measurement, I cut out the rolled collar pattern, which I turned and sewed around the neckline, making the end fall around the off-the-shoulder side asymmetric neckline.

And that completes the making process of the latest mummy to be. Looking forward to her birthday shoots tomorrow. Making dresses that join in others' happy moments and celebrations is definitely worth doing and being a part of.
