Making a Comfy And Elegant White Bubu Dress

Hello, dear creative friends, I hope you are all having a good day. We have beautiful, sunny weather here today, a good day to come up with something beautiful. Since I will be attending an all-white party this weekend, I took the opportunity to make myself a comfy and elegant boubou dress.

Lately, I find myself drifting towards free and comfortable wear, which I would usually run from few years back, as I was more of a fitted dress fan. It probably has to do with age, or having more responsiblitie lately, that i don't want to add the discomfort of a dress to it. And as they say, the only thing constant is change, maybe i'm just gradually change in this very moment of my life.

It's been a while since I attended an all white themed party or any coloured themed party at all, and when i got a friend's invite to her housewarming party this weekend, I was more than excited tpo be a part of the celebration, but another issue that came up was what to wear, going through my wardrobe, i couldn't find anything comfy and fitting, so I decided to make myself one.

It's moments like this that I'm thankful I can make my own dress. So early today, I headed to the fabric store closest to me and bought this beautiful white coloured liquid mikado fabric, about 3 yards of it. I chose this fabric because of its sophisticated texture and shine. It cost me a few dollars, which I know is worth it, as it is a flexible style and easily blends in on different occasions. More importantly, I now have a go-to white dress, which I think all ladies should have in their wardrobe.

Without further ado, let's get right into the making process.

Materials used

• Mikado fabric

• Elastic

• White coloured thread

Cutting And Sewing Process

• I started by folding the fabric into four, then drafted a Kimono bubu pattern with cowls on the sides. Then I cut out the back neckline first

• Then separated the back to cut out the front neckline

• Next, I cut out the facing pattern of both the front and back.

• Using the facings, I turned in the front and back neckline neatly

• Then proceeded to join the front and back pattern by the shoulders

• Continuing, I joined the sides of the dress, and also left the sleeve opening and folded it around the hem

• Finally, using the elastic band, I passed it around the sleeve hem and hemmed the base of the dress neatly. And that completes the making process of this beautiful bubu dress.

And here is the final elegant look of my white bubu dress. I placed two ropes inside the front to help contour around the waist area, giving that beautiful, feminine look.
