Beauty Among The Ruins!

(edited)

It's the weekend and I hope you're all having a great one!

06:30AM today, when I was supposed to be snug in bed, enjoying the late morning sleep, I was out on the street, racing to get to the salon before the 7AM sanitation's start time. Every last Saturday of the month is observed as general sanitation day in my city, and with my hair appointment at the salon for 8:00AM, leaving home that early was inevitable.

When I arrived, my stylist was already busy with another client, so I decided to take a stroll around the environment. This environment holds fond memories for me. It's where I spent the earlier days of my life. My walk took me to my alma mater, former Girls High School, Ogbor Hill, Aba - or what's left of it.

As I stepped into the premises, memories flooded back – the locked gates, the bustling hallways, the mischiefs and laughter that follows, hehehe. I recalled how I soaked up knowledge here, some of which helped shape my future.

And memories are what is left of the school now.

The once-vibrant school is now a shadow of itself - abandoned, desolate, with overgrown fields and crumbled walls, which has left the school's inner workings exposed to the world. In fact, the school has died a natural death. Humph!

Nothing lasts forever.

While still standing amongst the ruins, I looked up and there it was - the morning sun breaking through the cloud and casting a warm glow over the ruins. Captivating! The sunrise brought a sense of comfort, it felt like it was saying;

All is well, and that even in decay, beauty can be found.

Like a flash, I felt a sense of peace wash over me, followed by a sigh of great relief. Indeed, all's good.

With this renewed hope, I made my way back to the salon, happy for the chance to experience this bittersweet moment.

The warm glow of the sunrise often heralds hope and and infuses positive energy!
