Being talked to like I am a child by someone probably younger than me is a bit off putting and doesn't help you get your point across.
Certainly you could have expected that to happen. I would have been surprised if anyone actually had been calm and informative in their responses. One of the benefits of living overseas for about the last 20 years is that unless we go out and dig for it, politics has absolutely no bearing on our day-to-day lives and this is something I am really grateful for. I have found that left or right, the people that do bring it up in public overseas where I have lived tend to be the loudest and most uninformed people you can imagine that are doing the shouting. I have had to tell my lefty and my righty friends to STFU and to stop ruining the ambiance of our shitty dive bar that we were in. They might wake up the guy that is passed out in his own vomit and we can't have that.
I stay completely out of it because I feel as though people get WAY too emotionally attached to these things. Imagine your hardcore political friends and what they could accomplish if they spent that time on literally anything else. That's how I look at it.
I knew you were a progressive and you are handling it a lot better than some of the stuff I see on 9gag. There are a lot of mental health problems in the world, that is for sure.
It's just a hot mess over here. I think people are so short sighted that they aren't able to see the big picture. One thing that all of this has really made clear is just how much underlying hate there still is in the country. I would have thought we had moved past it by now, but when people are given a free pass to say and do whatever they want, the truth really starts to come out. I wish things were different here and people could just live their lives and have their opinions without it becoming a virtual war.
well maybe the right step for you is to not get engaged in it as far as online is concerned at least with people that you know. I know you peek at my meme dumps every now and then and I always preface those with how I left mainstream social media largely because of political infighting between people that I know have been friends for decades that are willing to toss all that out because of a difference of opinion that ultimately doesn't affect either of their lives. I think social media for the most part is extremely toxic and see no net benefit to them other than finding out the events that are going on in your area on a weekend or something like that.
I'm suspect you already feel this way so don't think I am being patronizing because I am not.
