The problem is there just isn't anything that fits our list. We thought about buying property, but people are asking outrageous prices and the cost to build is often inflated by 3 to 4 times what it should be. We might be lucky to get $200K for our 1688 square foot house, but it would cost us $400K to build a 1000 sq ft. new house.

Well building new home is an expensive proposition... In fact I find the best deals in Seattle real estate are homes that are overbuilt and over upgraded you can buy those amazing places at fraction of the cost to build that...
