Good afternoon, today I'm going to talk to you about a rapper who changed the way music is made. I'm talking about Marshall Bruce Mathers III, or as we all know him, Eminem
Marshall was named after his father who abandoned him and his mother. Marshall tried to contact his father several times by writing letters to him when he was a teenager. But his effort was in vain. Marshall frequently moved around the country which put his education in jeopardy as he reportedly moved and changed schools every 2 or 3 months.
This lifestyle made Marshall have trouble making friends. These teachers apparently singled him out for having mental problems. This added to the difficult situation of wanting to fit in in predominantly African-American neighborhoods and schools. But friends and family say that Marshall got used to being a kind of recluse by locking away sensuality and immersing himself in the world of comics.
Despite this trauma his mother is also said to have had Monch syndrome to market her son as being sick when he really wasn't, although he and his mother moved around a lot Marshall spent most of his childhood in Detroit and eventually found solace in a friendship with his mother's middle brother Ruben the two quickly became close. His mentor introduced him to the world of rap with the song Gretls from the Breaking Bad soundtrack, but some time later Ronnie would take his own life leaving Marshall traumatized and speechless for days and he was even unable to attend his funeral.
Marshall's upbringing was somewhat of a vicious cycle as he spent 3 years in 9th grade and eventually dropped out of school when he was 17, and his love of rap music led him to attend open mic rap battles to test out his material and it was around this time that he rapped under different names such as MCW NYNM and Candy eventually changing it to the Eminem name we know today although Marshall immersed himself in underground rap he constantly faced adversity due to being white.
Eminem gained global recognition thanks to producer Dr. Dre, who discovered him in 1997 after hearing his EP "Slim Shady EP." This marked the beginning of one of the most fruitful collaborations in rap history.
"The Slim Shady LP" (1999):
This album was his big commercial debut. He won a Grammy for Best Rap Album.
"The Marshall Mathers LP" (2000):
This album cemented his status as a superstar.
"The Eminem Show" (2002):
This album reflected a balance between her personal life and her career. She won another Grammy.
"8 Mile" (2002):
Eminem starred in this semi-autobiographical film about his early days in rap. The soundtrack includes "Lose Yourself," which won an Oscar for Best Original Song.
"Recovery" (2010):
After battling addiction and personal problems, this album marked his comeback.
Eminem has had a tumultuous relationship with Kim Scott, with whom he has been married twice and has a daughter, Hailie Jade, mentioned in many of his songs. He has also been a guardian to two adopted girls. Throughout his career, Eminem has battled drug addiction, mental health issues and constant criticism, but has always managed to reinvent himself.
