Embracing Personal Style Over Trends || LOH Contest #295

I like to think that art is alive in everything around us, and one of those things happens to be fashion. When you look around, especially in the media, you find a lot of people who are passionate about fashion and its intricacies, trying out new trends or developing their own in such a creative way, and honestly, I find all of that inspiring. But it’s never really been the same for me.

Personally, I consider myself fashion-conscious mostly because I love and accept the exploration of many forms of fashion, be it alternative or mainstream. That is, I’m often able to recognize what piece of clothing or accessory makes a statement in the room, as well as appreciate the creative process behind it. However, when it comes to myself, I’m more of a “Be you, wear you” kind of lady, and so fashion for me is all about comfort. Chic minimalism is my style.

I don’t buy or wear fashion items to look cool or appeal to a certain demographic of people. Instead, I commit to purchasing and wearing what elevates my look and makes me feel relaxed at the same time. I also like to think that the mood of the day or the event determines my outfit. I always dress according to the occasion. Whether it’s a formal event, religious gathering, or birthday party, I never fail to appear appropriately dressed.

What’s also interesting is that sometimes I get to stand out despite my simple "chic" style, and that’s how I know that it’s not always about doing too much or trying to be the center of attraction. It’s about being yourself, and people will admire you if they think your appearance represents what they want to see in their events or public spaces.

One thing that helped me overcome the doubts about my fashion sense is continuously dressing in a way that only I find appealing without seeking the validation of other people. I believe as long as I look comfy and put together, there’s no pressure that can get to me to be on the other side. And as somebody who gets easily overwhelmed by a lot of public attention, I find it easier to embrace minimalistic fashion that speaks to my personality while adopting some trendy accessories that truly complement my personal style.

Ultimately, my idea and interpretation of fashion are drawn from this popular quote by Yves Saint Laurent:

 “Fashion fades, style is eternal."

I believe this is one statement I want to spend the rest of my youth living by because having a personal style and an unshakeable sense of fashion is all there is to being YOU!

Wearing outfits that elevate your look, makes you comfortable and fitting for an event is just it for me. And it's nice to read that it's your style too.

That is good you still dress to the occasion. Lately it seems most people dress like slobs for all occasions. Don't get me wrong, I rarely get out of shorts and t-shirt. But when the occasion calls for it, I up my attire. It saddens about society to see people show up to formal occasions wearing jeans with holes and t-shirts.
