With everything I've heard in the last few days about women, it's easy to be annoyed about today being International Women's Day. I've come across a number of online conversations recently that points to the fact that women are not truly appreciated in this society of ours and celebrations like today's are usually just performative.
Women are still boxed in certain roles and are always going to be the weaker vessels in the books of many. They're blamed for not being good mothers or housewives, blamed for wanting more time on their maternity leave, blamed for occupying spaces, blamed for wanting to be more, and the list goes on.
Then on days like this, the same people who always point fingers would parade the 'Women are strong' agenda. It's tiring to see and makes me dread the concept of IWD and I have to remind myself it's not about the performativeness of it all but about us women, the self-awareness and celebrating one another.
Society makes it hard to be a woman but I looove being one and I love all women who go ahead to #breakthebias. It's easy to conform to society's expectations of how a woman should be especially for those who are not fortunate to be open to change. But there are so many women now living the life they choose to and it is so inspiring.
A self-aware woman is called proud, stubborn and stereotyped to be all sorts but that isn't stopping all the gorgeous gorgeous girls around the world. We're breaking gender stereotypes, and unlearning all of the tags that make us weaker links.
Chimamanda Adichie rightly says we should all be feminists and this doesn't apply to women alone. Feminism has been tagged as an evil word by many, men and women alike, which is quite funny because you'd assume the concept of being treated fairly shouldn't be hard to understand.
I'm thankful for women like Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie who rally for the awareness and inclusion of women in society to breed positive change. Her voice and literary work have inspired and liberated many women not just in Nigeria, but worldwide.
While we've had several feminists in the past fighting for women's rights who have been instrumental and very much appreciated, Chimamanda has been very vocal about feminism through her written work, fiction and non-fiction alike. She also raises awareness in her interviews and TEDx talks, of which you must have heard excerpts of in Beyonce's Flawless song.
Feminists in Nigeria are now tagged 'Daughters of Chimamanda', and while that is meant to be an insult, I find it beautiful to be associated with a groundbreaking personality and a woman who stays breaking the bias.
Together, we can collectively make a difference in diverse ways and break out of societal norms that aren't beneficial, and supports gender inequality. Happy International Women's Day beautiful ladies of hive! We have and will continue to #breakthebias.

Your sentiments are correct and for sure Chimamanda did noble with her course. I have also wondered that it is hypocrisy to honour us in some set dates after then, women are religated to the background. Well, we will continue to rise up and exercise our right to be humans. Thanks for the invite, I will make up something and participate
I don't know how I missed this post, but I'm glad I found it when I did. This was such an insightful post. What better time than now to be among the 'daughters of Chimamanda'?
Now! 😊😊

Hello @wolfofnostreet. Because of many women like Chimamanda who fight for women in the area of gender equality, a change will come. How soon, we don't know. But I do know we must keep up the fight and spread the word to other women. The fight is especially significant for our young daughters.
I wanted to bring to your attention the photo you included. Please use the direct link to the photo instead of a Google search result.
Thanks so much for highlighting this amazing woman. Take care, and stay safe.
I had no idea that I wasn't pasting the direct link. I'm sorry, I made the edit now.
Thanks for reading!
Thanks for taking the time to make the correction. It's a good practice to use the direct link for sourcing going forward as retrieving images from a google search is not the correct way.
We continue to #breakthebias
Happy international women’s day
Fine woman. Happy IWD!
I am proud of all of us. ❤️❤️
Happy international women's day to you and all the women in the world.
Happy IWD to you baby! ❤❤❤
Thanks ma'am. ☺️
Thank you so much for this invite, wolf lady.
I completely understand your distaste for the performative display of support on days like this. While I can’t stand the men who on this day pretend like they care, the horrific show of faux support by the corporate businesses especially the banks make me sick to my stomach, it’s more a PR stunt for them because they are so uninformed.
Regardless of all that, this day is still ours and we’ll decide what to do with it. And I say we celebrate each other, as well as use it as an opportunity to wake other women up.
It is obvious no one truly cares considering the most recent Twitter meltdown where a good number of men were seen shaming mothers for doing their damn best. We have to continue to #breakthebais.
Happy International Women’s Day @wolfofnostreet.
Omgoodness! The banks are the worst. They're the most sexist yet they're the loudest with their faux support.
That twitter meltdown was appalling. So-called intellectuals showing their disregard for women. I was so weak.
Anyway, it's not about them like you said.
Happy IWD love! ❤❤❤
❤️❤️❤️😘
