The Overated Birkin Bag LOH #303
Immediately I saw this week's second contest, what came to my mind at once was the Hermes Birkin Bag. And this is a better opportunity to share my thoughts on it.
This bag is widely seen as a top luxury, symbol of wealth and success and the price ranges from tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of dollars. I don't know about you that is reading this post, but as for me, I can not spend such huge amount of my money on it, no matter how easily I can afford it.
To me, the bag is far more about social prestige than actual value. It is treated as a trophy of success, when it serves the same basic purpose as any other well made bag, which is to carry ones belongings. The huge price tag does not add any extra value to it. Yes it is overated and a total waste of money for me oooo. I can put the same money into investment that will yield profit, be it small business, landed properties, real estates, stocks or other ventures that has the potential to grow, and generate steady returns, that will double or even trippled in value within a few years.
To me a Hermes Birkin Bag, even though it will last for a long time, is just a bag and will continue to be a bag to carry ones belongings, at such, it can not pay my bills, help the helpless, support my family or even build a long lasting security.
I mean, why will I throw such a big sum away on just one bag just to impress people? Even if the money is excess and I have nothing else to spend it on. Out there we have so many poor and needy people all around us who need help and support. I would rather use the money to help and support everyone I see on the streets or at the bus stop.
But the truth is that everyone has their own centre of attraction and interest. And my desire and choices are different from another person's own. Regardless of our choices and individual differences, true success is not about carrying thousands of dollars bags, it's about being able to impact on others and to build security even though there's no lasting security now.

I have to agree with you! That is ridiculous and such a total waste of money that could be better spent! Even if one is wealthy enough to purchase it, why not do something worthwhile and for someone else in need, rather than purchase a status symbo?

Woah, pricey purses. It's no wonder I see the odd Treasure Hunter carefully check out the fancy purses displayed behind the my Thrift Shop customer service counter. Every once in a while a big name bag shows up in the donations. But I find it amusing to see what the well heeled would pay for swinging that exclusive bag.
I have my eye on this one. After this post I wouldn't feel so bad if I bought this to go with my wardrobe.

Hahahaha, pricey pursues indeed. If I saw those behind the counter, I will be staring too. It's crazy to know how much people will spend just to swing that exclusive bag around š. Do you know that majority of them that spend that much on just a purse are actually paying for the name not the purse?. It's obvious.

And the bag, I love the design. And if it matches your wardrobe, who says you can't have it, I mean you've got your eyes on it for a reason. Don't hold back, go for it because you deserve it.
