And I can understand that you feel as you do and wish to go back and do it differently but you didn't know back then what would happen and you can't be so Hard on yourself.
You can make a memory belt, and it can be pocket small or bigger. That way you can have it with you and show him that you got the belt for him made out of Love from you 🩷
I am sure he is looking down on you smiling, and most important thing is for you to be able to think of him without feeling bad about not getting him that belt.
