Few weeks ago, I applied for a remote job and was scheduled for a meeting. I was so excited about it. I mean, having an online meeting for a job interview for the first time was such an experience for me that I was eager to attend and see the outcome. In fact, I got emailed more than 3 times before the day ensuring I do not forget the interview slated for 4 pm yesterday.
Iâd pray so well for this and even asked God to give me this job telling Him if He granted my desire, I would give my first salary as an offering.
Unknown to me, God had been watching me and perhaps smiling because He is the beginning and end, meaning He knew what the outcome would be even before it started. He just wanted me to have a feel of it to know how the job wouldnât be a good one for me and also, not a real one.
I made sure my laptop was charged and didnât use it but saved it for the day. Our light hadnât been stable for weeks now, and I didnât want to rule out the possibility that I would have a laptop to use for the meeting for a better experience than a phone.
The meeting happened; I bathed as early as I could, I was also prepared and got on my system 45 minutes before the meeting time, so I wouldnât arrive late. Honestly, I wanted everything to go perfectly.
Lo and behold, the owner of the so-called company for travel agency came on board with a few others, including me. He was the only one talking via video as we could see him but we were only allowed to access the chat room.
He wasnât seeing us as he said but was following up through the chat box. He literally explained all about the company, what they do, the number of staff currently employed, and a few more positions the company needed for different roles specified. Since I was told I was fit for one of the positions filled in - Data entry and administrative roles, I felt lucky.
He told us his expectations of us and then went ahead to the pay. According to him, each staff member in his company was earning more than 2 million dollars annually. I was more than shocked because that was too huge for such.
At that point, something already felt off, but here I was looking up at the ceiling in my room, signalling to God, âThank you,â because the guy mentioned that those who were present for the meeting would be hired immediately and training would follow immediately, as he doesnât fancy interviews.
As he got towards the end of the meeting, he mentioned a confirmation link which we would fill out and have our slots immediately. That was where I noticed something was fishy.
According to him, the link is to be filled for a certification which would stand as a cover insurance in case there was an error from us while attending to clients who would be travelling for vacations or whatever reason. That was when my mind was telling me this was a scam and there was nothing as such kind of job.
How am I even sure the others present werenât part of his plan to dupe people? Of course, I know all of this stuff, but I decided to stay for a while before leaving. I clicked the confirmation link, and it told me to fill in my name, and the next step was to subscribe to either a 6-month certification ($582) or a 12-month certification ($800+), which was even the best offer.
The founder asked that we all go ahead to fill out and make payment, so that we would receive a code, which we should send to the chat box, so he could take note of those who would be working in his company. I saw a few people dropping their codes in just a few seconds.
They thought I was a fool not to know it was all planned work and the code wasnât real. Lol. I just hissed and left quietly. I looked up and asked God to forgive me for being so adamant and desperate to get that job and I laughed afterwards because of that.
Like, I am looking for a job to earn money and someone is telling me to subscribe for such an amount. Donât you think if I had that amount right now, I wouldnât have gotten something to do with it? Lol.

If you had that money, would you even apply to that job in the first place?
