A Life Without Memories, But With Familiar Souls ~ LOH #242

Reading over again the two options staring at me from the LOH contest prompt, I knew these were philosophical questions that require deep thinking, especially one that touches our memory, family, friends, and also our values.

After thinking it over and coming up with my reasons, I have made my choice to go for the second option, that is, forgetting everything from the past but being surrounded by the same people reincarnated like me.

Reason for my choice…

Going for this option means a fresh start for me. It means I am born into a completely new life with no past memories. No past regrets. Nothing like carrying emotional baggage.

This means I am meeting new people, my family and friends, who are also unaware of who they are. We are living a new life without remembering our old selves - forgetting our mistakes, pain, and even our past accomplishments. But you know what? I am around the same souls but all are in new forms because we are starting afresh, making new memories. A new form of connection, too.

Though I can't remember how we did in the past, I can still feel them. This is because even though the mind may forget, the soul still feels this deep connection because they are people who are part of me but on a different and new level.

The beauty of this fresh start for me is that I am free from past heartbreak, trauma, guilt or sadness, which the previous life weighed me down with.

I get to live a life so pure and unburdened by all of these and that’s something fascinating. It’s like a second chance for me to love again and create deeper connections with these people. Even though I don’t remember the memories we once shared or created, my heart might still be able to click with them.

There is something so poetic about finding each other all over again, even if there is no memory to look back on. I can imagine being so close to the people who shaped my soul, even though I forget everything from my past life, but one thing is that I am free from any guilt, and I would have emotional freedom to explore and learn new things.

However, I still feel there might be things I might miss, and they are the lessons lost from my past life and losing all my personal memories, perhaps my sense of who I truly am. This option might make me repeat past mistakes because of the inability to know what went wrong before which wouldn’t give me the chance to learn to avoid it, but isn’t that what makes life fun?

Lessons never get exhausted, and so we keep making mistakes which will define us to make a fulfilling life. This option will give me a new perspective and a way to grow better. I can make new choices and be stronger, kinder, and freer without being in the bondage of who I was in the past.

It allows me to define myself from a new beginning without limiting myself or my beliefs, and that’s something meaningful to me. Also, I don't mind erasing every memory to get closer to people from my past who have nurtured me and have created a deeper bond with them.
