A Little Boy and Big Feelings – On Friendship, Acceptance, and a Mother's Hopes
#LadiesOfHive #parenting #neurodiversity #reflections
Yesterday, our son Alex was invited to yet another classmate’s birthday party.
It’s not the first invite recently – and each one brings us more joy than words can truly express.
And next week… another party! This time, at a friend’s house outside of school.
And that? That means the world to us.
Because behind every birthday party there’s more than just cake and balloons.
It’s a sign that our son has friends. That he’s liked. That someone wants him around – not out of obligation, but because he’s a great kid.
And we know he is.
But we also know the world doesn’t always see that right away.
Alex faces his own challenges. He has his own uniqueness, his own way of being, his own hurdles.
And sometimes – as parents – we ask ourselves questions that keep us up at night.
Will he have friends?
Will someone invite him to play?
In a world that’s so quick to judge and label – will he find his place?
When you have a child with a disability, these questions burn a little deeper.
We want our child to be seen not for his struggles, but for who he truly is:
a warm, joyful, funny, sensitive, and... absolutely wonderful little boy.
It’s not always easy. Not everything comes naturally.
But every invitation, every laugh with friends, every “Hi Alex!” shouted with joy – feels like a ray of sunshine after a long winter.
I don’t know if we’re doing everything perfectly – does any mom ever know that for sure?
But what I do know is that we love him fiercely and we’re doing all we can to give him a strong start.
To surround him with people who truly see him.
To make sure he feels wanted, important, and… simply happy.
And you – mom, dad, friend – do you ask yourself these same questions sometimes?
Do you find your biggest hope is simply that your child will be liked?
Because sometimes, the greatest success is seeing your child smile at a friend’s birthday party.
Especially when there was once a time you weren’t sure that day would ever come.
Thank you for being here and reading our story.
We’re not alone.

A w przyszłym tygodniu… kolejne urodziny!
Czy ktoś go zaprosi do zabawy?
pełnym ciepła, radości, humoru, wrażliwości i… absolutnie cudownym chłopcem.
Ale wiem jedno: kochamy go nad życie i robimy wszystko, by dać mu dobry start.
By miał wokół siebie ludzi, którzy go widzą takim, jakim jest.
By czuł się ważny, chciany i… zwyczajnie szczęśliwy.
A Ty, mama, tata, przyjaciel – też nosisz w sercu te pytania?
