LOH #243 - The Cost Of Second Chance

Hello, beautiful people! Welcome to my blog. It's a pleasure to have you in this space. Once again, welcome 🤗

Most times when people ask me what I want to change about myself, I usually tell them that I don't have anything because I love and admire the woman I have grown to become, but recently I realized that I do have something I really want to change about myself.

I realized I easily give people second chances to prove themselves whenever they say or do something to me or anyone else because I believe everyone deserves a second chance in life. I have this assumption that they might have changed. While this trait might seem good and beneficial in some situations, it often leads me to disappointment and heartache.

The reason why I believe that people should be given a second chance is because of my belief in people's inherent goodness. Unfortunately, this has to some extent clouded my judgment, causing me to overlook red flags and ignore warning signs.

In 2023 I gave a church member who's a seamstress clothes to sew for me for my neighbor's wedding. This was almost two months before the wedding, and I made full payment that same day. She promised to sew the dress in two weeks time, but she didn't; she kept giving me different excuses. That was how the clothes stayed with her for a good six months. I had to report her to my pastor's wife before she sewed the clothes, and what she did was rubbish; she changed the style. This year she told me she had changed, so I gave her a second chance and gave my clothes to her the second week of January this year with full payment, and she hasn't sewn the clothes to date; she keeps giving me different excuses.

She isn't the first person that has taken my second chance for granted and has hurt and betrayed me, and I think it's time for me to reevaluate my approach. Not everyone deserves a second chance because I might just be enabling their behavior and putting myself at risk.

THANK YOU FOR READING TO THE END 🤗

Your last sentence says it all. Not everyone deserves a second chance especially when they have not shown signs of repentance and growth.

Even Joseph tested his brothers to see if they were still the same men that would easily sell him off again and u til he saw that they have changed, he didn't reveal himself to them.

Things like this are common especially with all these skills like tailors, mechanic and others. My advice is my to pay them their money in full. That would keep them yearning for their money and until they finish your job, you don't pay them their balance.

You are right, it's mostly the skilled ones that behave that way. Thanks for the advice, I will put it into consideration 🤗

In today's world, it is unfortunate that people do things like that to others. Thank you for sharing and have a lovely day!

On the second time round, I'd ask for references. That is proof, recent customers that were satisfied with doing business with her. A wedding is just too important to leave to chance or a second chance.

I have learnt my lesson and won't try that again

Awwww. I feel you. I used to have such thoughts when I was in high school I think. Like why be nice to others when we only get hurt. But years later I realized after my spiritual renewal that it's better to do good than hurt those who hurt us. This prevents more suffering from happening in the world. Not that we become doormats but we also need to speak up and set boundaries for people to know when they are crossing the line and doing bad things to us too.

Meaning in the example you gave I'm glad you still gave her a chance but indeed it's right to stop giving her more chances if she truly doesn't change her bad behavior. It's best to pray for such people too to help them overcome such misdemeanors. Lord knows we all need prayers. 🙏
